A Method for Estimating Volume and Rate of Runoff in Small Watersheds (Classic Reprint)
Author: K. M. Kent
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780332626697
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 72
Book Description
Excerpt from A Method for Estimating Volume and Rate of Runoff in Small Watersheds Ven Te Chow has described many methods which have been used for determining waterway areas and the design of drainage control structures in small watersheds Some of these methods have been used by the Soil Conservation Service (scs) for estimating peak discharge rates. These include the rational method (ramser curves after C. E. Ramser), the Cook method after H. L. Cook, the modified Cook or ZW method by M. M. Culp and others, and the method by Victor Mockus and others described in the National Engineering Handbook, Section h, an inservice handbook of scs, hereinafter referred to as neh-h. Scs has used these methods primarily for the design of measures for individual farms and ranches. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Estimating Peak Runoff Rates from Ungaged Small Rural Watersheds
Author: Paul Bock
Publisher: Highway Research Board
ISBN: 9780309020213
Category : Culverts
Languages : en
Pages : 85
Book Description
A problem that continues to plague highway agencies is that of selecting optimum culvert sizes for waterways based on (1) estimates of the magnitude and frequency of peak flows from small rural watersheds (less than 25 square miles), (2) the relative cost of facilities necessary to accommodate the estimated flows, and (3) the possible effects of flows in excess of the estimates used for design purposes. Although this report does not resolve the problem, it does provide valuable insight into the difficulties associated with attempts to develop improved methods for estimating peak runoff rates of various return periods for small ungaged rural watersheds throughout the United States.
