Book Description
Ion Mobility Spectrometry IMS as provided the US Army with capabilities for ultrasensitive detection of chemical warfare agents and this technology is undergoing continued development and refinement today as a miniaturized detector of warfare agents. The basis for response in this technology is gas phase ion chemistry at ambient atmosphere; however, no broad framework has existed for understanding this chemistry and no predictive ans interpretative capabilities have existed for mobility spectra. This has meant that a new chemical agent deployed against US soldiers could conceivably be unrecognized by existing methods. A comprehensive model for the prediction and interpretation of mobility spectra was created here and tools are available to understand and predict spectra for the first time in history of modern analytical mobility spectrometry. Predictive capabilities are rooted in assessments of ion stability, ion lifetimes, times for ion drift, temperature and moisture. Interpretative capabilities were attained through neural networks and spectral assignments succeeded on the basis of previously uncharacterized fragmentation of ions at ambient atmosphere. The results from this work demonstrated the possibility that an unknown or unfamiliar chemical can be categorized or recognized by chemical class.

Book Description
This book explores the mechanism of alkali-metal ion/molecule association reaction, surveys the instrumental basis to study its kinetic, and describes the instrumentation to the measurement of alkali-metal ion affinities. The applications of the ion complexation mechanism in the condensed phase in reaction to direct analysis MS are also covered. Other topics include mechanism and reaction rate, experimental and theoretical ion affinities, applications of ion attachment reactions (IAR) to mass spectrometry such as alkali ion CIMS, ion attachment MS and cationization mass spectrometry of ESI, FAB, FD, LD, MALDI and SIMS and topics of IAR-based direct analysis mass spectrometry.

Book Description
Completely revised and updated, this text provides an easy-to-read guide to the concept of mass spectrometry and demonstrates its potential and limitations. Written by internationally recognised experts and utilising "real life" examples of analyses and applications, the book presents real cases of qualitative and quantitative applications of mass spectrometry. Unlike other mass spectrometry texts, this comprehensive reference provides systematic descriptions of the various types of mass analysers and ionisation, along with corresponding strategies for interpretation of data. The book concludes with a comprehensive 3000 references. This multi-disciplined text covers the fundamentals as well as recent advance in this topic, providing need-to-know information for researchers in many disciplines including pharmaceutical, environmental and biomedical analysis who are utilizing mass spectrometry
