Book Description
The lives of a young Wyoming cowboy turned Navy Mammal Handler, Brent Harris, and a delightful green-eyed southern girl, Katie Donavan, are woven together by the events in the life of a young Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin, Alika, in this heartwarming story-a fable of loyalty, gallantry, hope, and love. Brent, a horse trainer with a special gift, joins the Navy fresh out of high school to see the world. When a Navy notice asking for volunteers for the Navy's Marine Mammal Program (NMMP) is announced, Brent gives up a glittering career to become a mammal handler. His decision, not easily made, fulfills a long time spiritual oracle he believes has called upon him. He is assigned to Alika, a spirited, orphaned dolphin with some issues. Through her unrelenting effort, Katie locates the little dolphin she helped rescue years before and coordinates a field trip for a group of marine biology students to a little known Navy command at Point Loma, California. There, she is reunited with Alika, now a certified Fleet Mk-7 Mine Hunter dolphin. The reunion was a euphoric triumph but made even more spectacular by Katie's chance introduction to Brent, Alika's handler. Love blossoms for Brent and Katie, but the clouds of war form in the Mideast. On March 20th, 2003 the US coalition of nations initiate Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)-the second gulf war. Brent, Alika, and other mine-hunting teams from NMMP deploy to the mid-east; they are integral to the OIF campaign and are of the first called into action. Three days after the task of clearing sea-mines from the port of Umm Qasr begins, Brent suffers a brutal attack from a bull shark. Alika exacts retribution and dispatches the shark then tows Brent to safety, saving his life. Brent had a promising future. He had gained so many things-some through hard work, diligence, and good decisions but most through the grace of God. He had completed a mystical calling, which, five-years earlier had beckoned him. But now, it seemed, one by one, his life's greatest treasures were being systematically stripped from him. He'll recover from his physical wounds, but the real devastation is the reality that he will be discharged from the Navy, lose his job, his dolphin, and likely, his one true love-Katie. But Katie has other plans. She comes to Brent with hope, salvation, and a promise. For the first time Alika testifies to the unwavering bond of loyalty and trust dolphins share with their handlers. Alika is a must read for those kind souls who thrive on animal stories or who are allured to the majestic and mysterious mammals who live in the sea and befriend man.

Book Description
"Roger Ball! is a magnificent read about a great and distinguished life well lived. John Monroe Smith is a living legend in Naval aviation: an all-American boy living his dream, a dream of becoming the best fighter pilot and carrier aviator in the Navy. He succeeded in being the best in a way that only one with unbridled passion, fierce commitment, boundless energy, unconditional dedication and relentless resolve can experience." -Ed Allen, Rear Admiral, USN (Retired) In the wake of the hard lessons of the Vietnam War, a pantheon of committed naval aviators struggled valiantly to modernize fighter aircraft and overhaul tactics. It was a seemingly titanic task marked by political intrigue, doctrinal apoplexy, and sadly, petty politics. This is the personal story of one of those naval aviators, Captain John Monroe "Hawk" Smith. It chronicles his growth as a naval officer, his seasoning as a fighter pilot, and his hardening as a commanding officer. It tells of the raw courage of naval aviators and captures the visceral loyalty, unswerving commitment, and the unsinkable camaraderie that is the brotherhood of naval aviation. Roger Ball! is a seven-g, heart-in-the-throat story of the very unforgiving profession of naval aviation.

Book Description
An exciting look at what it takes to command a US Navy Fighter Squadron. This historical biography of John Monroe “Hawk” Smith, Navy fighter pilot, is a gripping account of valor, sacrifice, and adventure during one of the most tumultuous periods in carrier aviation. Hawk, having completed a stunning tour as commanding officer of TOPGUN, received orders to a frontline F-14 Tomcat squadron—VF-213, the “Black Lions.” Hawk joined the Black Lions prior to their March 1979 deployment. Several critical factors portended to a most arduous workup period and deployment—there were issues lurking. But Hawk was a man who did not shy away from a challenge. Soon, the Lions would have opportunities to show their colors. These included the first-ever Fighter Derby at NAS Miramar, California—the “World Cup” for naval fighter squadrons, and Constant Peg, a highly classified “Black Program” that exposed aircrews to the capabilities of Soviet fighters. Aviation enthusiasts and historians will be captivated by the historical fidelity and descriptive air combat engagements, amused by the perpetual mirth of TACAIR aviators, and inspired by lessons of leadership that apply to all walks of life.

Book Description
Early in 1892, one of Norway's finest boat builders launched a sailing legend. Over 100 years later Shane Granger and Meggi Macoun were peacefully enjoying a siesta when the great tsunami of 2004 changed their lives forever. With thousands of people desperately in need, they loaded their boat with donated food and medical supplies then set sail for Sumatra. That voyage was the beginning of a rip-roaring real life sea tale complete with storms, adventures, exotic tropical islands, and heart-rending drama. Come feel the wind, smell the riggers tar, and taste the salt in this tale of a century old wooden sailing boat and her crew of intrepid adventurers as they take up their yearly 7,500-mile journey to deliver over 25 tons of educational and medical supplies to some of our world's most remote island communities. About the Author SHANE GRANGER (1948 - until his luck runs out) has been in love with the sea since he was seven years old. Having worked as a radio DJ, advertising photographer, boat builder, director of museum ship restoration, and bush pilot, he has always come back to the sea. Shane has sailed thousands of miles solo, most of that on a square-rigged brigantine he salvaged from a beach in West Africa - a vessel he once single-handedly sailed across the Atlantic without a functioning rudder. After walking across the Sahara Desert, and being kidnapped by bandits in Afghanistan, his greatest ambition in life is to find a comfortable niche where he can enjoy the healthy benefits of monotony and boredom. He currently lives on an ancient wooden sailing boat with his partner Meggi Macoun and their cat Scourge.
