Book Description
Algebraic geometry is a traditional and fast-developing research area in East Asia. There are many world-leading algebraic geometers, and an increasing number of active mathematicians in related areas, in East Asia, including China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam. The purpose of the Algebraic Geometry in East Asia conference series is to provide a platform for algebraic geometers in or near East Asia. This volume contains the proceedings of the conference on Algebraic Geometry in East Asia, Taipei, which was held in November 2011 at the National Center for Theoretical Sciences (NCTS) in Taipei. The volume contains two survey articles and nine research articles. It provides the latest advances in algebraic geometry research in East Asia.

Book Description
Written to honor the 80th birthday of William Fulton, the articles collected in this volume (the first of a pair) present substantial contributions to algebraic geometry and related fields, with an emphasis on combinatorial algebraic geometry and intersection theory. Featured topics include commutative algebra, moduli spaces, quantum cohomology, representation theory, Schubert calculus, and toric and tropical geometry. The range of these contributions is a testament to the breadth and depth of Fulton's mathematical influence. The authors are all internationally recognized experts, and include well-established researchers as well as rising stars of a new generation of mathematicians. The text aims to stimulate progress and provide inspiration to graduate students and researchers in the field.

Book Description
Written in celebration of Miles Reid's 70th birthday, this illuminating volume contains 11 papers by leading mathematicians in and around algebraic geometry, broadly related to the themes and interests of Reid's varied career. Just as in Reid's own scientific output, some of the papers give comprehensive accounts of the state of the art of foundational matters, while others give expositions of subject areas or techniques in concrete terms. Reid has been one of the major expositors of algebraic geometry and a great influence on many in this field – this book hopes to inspire a new generation of graduate students and researchers in his tradition.

Book Description
The finite generation theorem is a major achievement of modern algebraic geometry. Based on the minimal model theory, it states that the canonical ring of an algebraic variety defined over a field of characteristic zero is a finitely generated graded ring. This graduate-level text is the first to explain this proof. It covers the progress on the minimal model theory over the last 30 years, culminating in the landmark paper on finite generation by Birkar-Cascini-Hacon-McKernan. Building up to this proof, the author presents important results and techniques that are now part of the standard toolbox of birational geometry, including Mori's bend and break method, vanishing theorems, positivity theorems and Siu's analysis on multiplier ideal sheaves. Assuming only the basics in algebraic geometry, the text keeps prerequisites to a minimum with self-contained explanations of terminology and theorems.

Book Description
The algebraic geometry community has a tradition of running a summer research institute every ten years. During these influential meetings a large number of mathematicians from around the world convene to overview the developments of the past decade and to outline the most fundamental and far-reaching problems for the next. The meeting is preceded by a Bootcamp aimed at graduate students and young researchers. This volume collects ten surveys that grew out of the Bootcamp, held July 6–10, 2015, at University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah. These papers give succinct and thorough introductions to some of the most important and exciting developments in algebraic geometry in the last decade. Included are descriptions of the striking advances in the Minimal Model Program, moduli spaces, derived categories, Bridgeland stability, motivic homotopy theory, methods in characteristic and Hodge theory. Surveys contain many examples, exercises and open problems, which will make this volume an invaluable and enduring resource for researchers looking for new directions.

This volume contains the proceedings of the conference ``Primitive Forms and Related Subjects'', held at the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (IPMU), University of Tokyo, February 10-14, 2014. The principal aim of the conference was to discuss the current status of rapidly developing subjects related to primitive forms. In particular, Fukaya category, Gromov-Witten and FJRW invariants, mathematical formulation of Landau-Ginzburg models, and mirror symmetry were discussed. The conference had three introductory courses by.experts and 12 lectures on more advanced topics. This volume volume contains two survey articles and 11 research articles based on the conference presentations.

Book Description
In recent years, research in K3 surfaces and Calabi–Yau varieties has seen spectacular progress from both arithmetic and geometric points of view, which in turn continues to have a huge influence and impact in theoretical physics—in particular, in string theory. The workshop on Arithmetic and Geometry of K3 surfaces and Calabi–Yau threefolds, held at the Fields Institute (August 16-25, 2011), aimed to give a state-of-the-art survey of these new developments. This proceedings volume includes a representative sampling of the broad range of topics covered by the workshop. While the subjects range from arithmetic geometry through algebraic geometry and differential geometry to mathematical physics, the papers are naturally related by the common theme of Calabi–Yau varieties. With the big variety of branches of mathematics and mathematical physics touched upon, this area reveals many deep connections between subjects previously considered unrelated. Unlike most other conferences, the 2011 Calabi–Yau workshop started with 3 days of introductory lectures. A selection of 4 of these lectures is included in this volume. These lectures can be used as a starting point for the graduate students and other junior researchers, or as a guide to the subject.
