Book Description
For several years many of my students have been urgently requesting written information regarding my thoughts on life and the martial arts. They requested it in book form. It all started with one particular Tae Kwon Do student and as several Quiet Storm practitioners began to seek me out on advance ideas, theory and philosophy, they also started training in Aikido on many occasions. As they practiced with the Aikido students that request for written knowledge began to spread to students in my Aikido classes. After giving it serious thought and "trying"to consider the consequences of this action, I began reflecting on my many years of experiences. I started looking through the notes which I had began jotting down dating from about 1973 through the present day. What I thought they wanted was incorrect. I soon came to realize that they didn't want a shortcut. I have always taught that there are no shortcuts. They wanted inspiration, or more to the point, they wanted to know about that which had inspired and guided me. Many students said I was different from anyone else they have ever met and they want to know why. I won't give you a definitive answer here, but I will tell you this: I do not believe "time" exists in the usual sense. Think only of "Now." That's all there is. Thinking that way may make it easier for you to comprehend why I seem different from most other people. I can tell you this; it's all an open secret.

Book Description
Journey to the Heart of Aikido presents the teachings of Motomichi Anno Sensei, one of the few remaining direct students of Morihei Ueshiba, the legendary founder of Aikido. After a lifetime of practice and teaching in Japan, the United States, and Europe, Anno Sensei conveys through his teachings Aikido's essential spirit of love, harmony, gratitude, and purification with simple authenticity and eloquence. Author and translator Linda Holiday--herself a senior instructor of Aikido--brings to life the intimacy of this communication through translated discourses on the deep practice of Aikido and candid dialogues between Anno sensei and Western students. Journey to the Heart of Aikido includes Linda Holiday's vivid account of her adventure as a young woman studying Aikido in the mystical region of Kumano, Japan, in the 1970s, and a poignant telling of Anno sensei's life and his first-hand experience of training with Aikido's founder. An essential resource for the global Aikido community, Journey to the Heart of Aikido also offers spiritual teachings relevant to all contemporary seekers, touching a wide range of themes such as the meaning of martial arts, the integration of body and spirit, the truth of interconnectedness, and the practice of peace, offering all readers insight into the profound spiritual questions at the heart of life.

Book Description
Fifteen years ago, Kim Barton walked into an Aikido dojo and her life was transformed. She never imagined herself doing a martial art, had never even heard of Aikido until a few months before, and yet, there she was on the mat in a dojo. Off the mat, Kim thought about Aikido and how it affected her life. How does proper posture affect our actions on and off the mat? What is 'spiritual power?'How does one handle the responsibility of teaching Aikido? What does it mean to be engaged with our partners? In the process of earning her third degree black belt, Kim journaled, wrote essays and blog posts about these questions and about her personal Aikido journey. These writings have now been compiled into Aikido: One Woman's Journey of Self-Discovery. Taking inspiration from O'Sensei, the wisdom of her teacher or visiting teachers, and quotes from martial artists like Bruce Lee, Kim contemplates Aikido, self-discovery, and life.

Book Description
Set in a ghost town in California's Mojave Desert, Seeing Into Stone: A Sculptor's Journey is a memoir about the author's struggle with flaws in her vision, her carvings and her new marriage as she searches for her identity as an artist. Through her fifteen-year apprenticeship with Gordon Newell, a wise and patient stone sculptor, she learns that carving stone and wood can be understood as a metaphor for life: go with the grain and not against it; trust that the form inside will emerge in its own good time; and realize that understanding comes slowly, chip by chip.

Book Description
With the number of Aikido dojos in the U.S. estimated at up to 1,000, this Japanese martial art has never been more popular. This revised edition of the best-selling Aikido Exercises for Teaching and Training provides an ideal companion for both teachers and students of all Aikido systems. With over 100 illustrations and 300 pages of detailed techniques and exercises, Aikido Exercises for Teaching and Training has proved itself as the definitive guide to the “peaceful martial art.” The exercises here are based on hitori waza, the simple building blocks that underlie the most spectacular Aikido throws. These are augmented with testing techniques, class demonstrations, and underlying basics of physics, anatomy, and psychology. The book includes an explanation of the relationships between exercises and throws; an approach for safe mastery of rolling and ukemi skills; the anatomy of wristlocks; useful training equipment; exercises for individual, off-mat practice; and verbal self-defense techniques. Unlike most Aikido manuals, this one draws from multiple systems (including Aikikai and Yoshinkan Aikido as well as Judo) and many seemingly unrelated topics to enhance understanding of the underlying principles of Aikido. Peppered with humorous anecdotes, creative analogies, and real-life lessons, this is a practical and inspiring guide for all Aikidoists.

Book Description
• Explores Nadeau’s personal journey and pioneering role in the spread of Aikido, including firsthand accounts and historical photographs published for the first time • Explains Nadeau’s unique teaching, his core concepts, and basic practices centered on energy refinement, direct experience and inner transformation • Presents inspiring personal stories about Nadeau contributed by students, including Dan Millman, Richard Strozzi-Heckler, Peter Ralston, and Renée Gregorio A widely influential figure in the development of Aikido in America, Robert Nadeau is known as one of the few American direct disciples of Aikido’s founder Morihei Ueshiba Osensei. Now an 8th dan Aikido master teacher, Nadeau has taught generations of students, and several have become prominent teachers in their own right. However, he has never written about his life or philosophy, always reserving his most pointed lessons for those who practice with him in person. This book tells the story of Robert Nadeau’s life journey and his distinctive approach to teaching Aikido as a way to access the inner energetic aspects of the art, a transformational approach with universal applications in daily life, even for non-Aikidoists. The authors explore Nadeau’s early interest in martial arts and all things spiritual as a teenager in California in the 1950s, his seminal training under Morihei Ueshiba at Aikido Hombu Dojo in Tokyo in the 1960s, and the following six decades of training, experimenting, refining, and teaching as he worked to introduce Aikido to the wider world, even beyond the traditional dojo. They lay out Nadeau’s core concepts, describe his simple-but-effective practices for personal development, and convey his time-tested approach to the inner training at the heart of Aikido in a very accessible way. They also include first-person accounts from Nadeau’s students, including Dan Millman, Richard Strozzi-Heckler, Peter Ralston, and Renée Gregorio, who recall their personal experiences of training with him, retell conversations with him, and describe insights and lessons learned, sharing how he affected their lives, sometimes quite profoundly. Bringing the story of Robert Nadeau’s life into focus, this book presents, for the first time, the profound lessons and deep impact of a pioneering teacher who’s been central to the spread of Aikido in the West.
