Book Description
This book presents the latest advances in photometric 3D reconstruction. It provides the reader with an overview of the state of the art in the field, and of the latest research into both the theoretical foundations of photometric 3D reconstruction and its practical application in several fields (including security, medicine, cultural heritage and archiving, and engineering). These techniques play a crucial role within such emerging technologies as 3D printing, since they permit the direct conversion of an image into a solid object. The book covers both theoretical analysis and real-world applications, highlighting the importance of deepening interdisciplinary skills, and as such will be of interest to both academic researchers and practitioners from the computer vision and mathematical 3D modeling communities, as well as engineers involved in 3D printing. No prior background is required beyond a general knowledge of classical computer vision models, numerical methods for optimization, and partial differential equations.

Book Description
The revised 2nd edition of this practical book provides an expanded treatment and comparison of techniques used in advanced optical measurements, guiding its reader from fundamental radiometric and photometric concepts to the state-of-the-art in highly sensitive measurements of optical losses and in spectroscopic detection using coherent laser light and spontaneous radiation. The book describes and compares a broad array of high-sensitivity methods and techniques – from interferometric and/or calorimetric, acousto-optic and resonator or polarization to wavelength- and frequency-modulation, phase-shift and decay time studies, and direct-loss measurements for free-space, fiber- or waveguide-based systems and devices. Updated throughout, the new edition describes novel trends in spectral interferometry, frequency-comb and laser-excitation spectroscopy, reflected in the developments of Raman, Brillouin and FTIR (Fourier Transform Infra-Red) techniques for biomedical research, biotech sensing and detection. It also covers broad practical implementations of time- and frequency-domain terahertz spectroscopy measurements. This book reviews the physical concepts of radiation transfer, providing a quantitative foundation for the means of measurements of optical losses, which affect propagation and distribution of light waves in various media and in diverse optical systems and components. It focuses on the application of optical methods and procedures for the evaluation of transparent, reflecting, scattering, absorbing, and aggregated objects, and for determining the power and energy parameters of radiation and color properties of light. This updated new edition will serve as an up-to-date reference source and practical guide for those using photometric and radiometric techniques.

Book Description
Stellar photometry from space, automatic photometric telescopes, and CCD photometers, these are just some of the exciting areas of current interest and future developments in stellar photometry covered in this timely review. Articles from international experts - drawn together at the IAU Colloquium 136, in Dublin, 1992 - are gathered here to cover all aspects of this fundamental technique. In this survey, professionals discuss state-of-the-art and future technology including photometry with millimagnitude accuracy, multichannel arrays used in the optical and IR, a global network of automatic photometric telescopes, time-series photometry of faint sources using CCDs, and photometry from space. These articles provide an up-to-date account of all aspects of photometry and a guide to future developments - an essential survey for professionals involved in the design and use of such instruments.

Book Description
The concept of flow injection analysis (FIA) was first proposed in 1975 by Ruzicka and Hansen, and this initiated a field of research that would, over more than three decades, involve thousands of researchers, and which has to date resulted in close to 20,000 publications in the international scientific literature. Since its introduction, a number of books, including some specialized monographs, have been published on this subject with the latest in 2000. However, in this decade there has been a number of significant advances in the flow analysis area, and in particular in sequential injection analysis (SIA) techniques, and more recently with the introduction of Lab on a Valve (LOV) and bead injection flow systems. This book aims to cover the most important advances in these new areas, as well as in classical FIA, which still remains the most popular flow analysis technique used in analytical practice. Topics covered in the 23 chapters include the fundamental and underlying principles of flow analysis and associated equipment, the fluid-dynamic theory of FIA, an extensive coverage of detection methods (e.g. atomic and molecular spectrometry, electroanalytical methods). In addition, there are several chapters on on-line separation (e.g. filtration, gas diffusion, dialysis, pervaporation, solvent and membrane extraction, and chromatography), as well as on other sample pretreatment techniques, such as digestion. The book also incorporates several chapters on major areas of application of flow analysis in industrial process monitoring (e.g food and beverages, drugs and pharmaceuticals), environmental and agricultural analysis and life sciences. The contributing authors, who include the founders of flow injection analysis, are all leading experts in flow analytical techniques, and their chapters not only provide a critical review of the current state of this area, but also suggest future trends. - Provides a critical review of the current state of and future trends in flow analytical techniques - Offers a comprehensive elucidation of the principles and theoretical basis of flow analysis - Presents important applications in all major areas of chemical analysis, from food products to environmental concerns
