Depuis le vote de la loi Neuwirth, il y a 40 ans, libéralisant la contraception, la France a connu une large diffusion des méthodes contraceptives, son taux de couverture actuel est l'un des plus élevé au monde (90%). On constate qu'en début de vie sexuelle active, 8,8% des jeunes filles n'utilisent aucune contraception, et 18,3% utilisent une contraception par préservatif masculin seul. Or, ces situations représentent 70% des motifs de recours à l'IVG pour cette tranche d'âge. L'auteur a réalisé une étude qualitative, par entretiens semi-dirigés, auprès de dix étudiantes, âgées de 18 à 21 ans, restées trois mois ou plus sans couverture contraceptive « médicale ». L'objectif de ce travail était de connaître les représentations et les comportements de ces jeunes femmes vis-à-vis de la contraception et de mieux cerner leurs aprioris, leurs appréhensions, leurs difficultés et leurs attentes, face au parcours contraceptif. Les résultats montrent qu'il persiste de nombreux freins socio-environnementaux : tabou, manque de connaissances, idées reçues, non acceptation de la sexualité des jeunes... et que les problèmes d'accès à la contraception ne sont pas tous résolus. Les échecs et les « oublis » de préservatifs sont nombreux et les recours à la contraception d'urgence relativement aisés et fréquents.Le médecin généraliste, souvent seul praticien consulté par ces jeunes filles, avant la mise en route de leur contraception, occupe une place de choix en matière de prévention. L'enjeu de la première consultation est majeur, les qualités humaines du professionnel de santé et la relation médecin-patient sont primordiales car elles détermineront la mise en place et le suivi de la contraception.

This book examines the nature and significance of the impact of population growth on the weIl-being of developing countries-in particular, the effects on economic growth, education, health, food supply, housing, poverty, and the environment. In addition, because family planning programmes often significantly affect population growth, the study examines the impacts of family planning on fertility and health, and the human rights implications of family planning programmes. In considering the book's conclusions about the impact of population growth on development, four caveats should be noted. First, the effects of population growth vary from place to place and over time. Thus, blanket statements about overall effects often cannot be made. Where possible, the authors note the contexts in which population effects are strongest and weakest. Second, all of the outcomes examined in this book are influenced by factors other than population growth. In medicine the understanding and interpretation of the complex reality of illness currently refers either to an organismic approach that focuses on the physical or to a 'holistic' approach that takes into account the patient's human sociocultural involvement.
