Book Description
Tall Tales from the Tower: The Real Hillbilly Elegy By: Stephen G. Morris It’s true. The USAF gave a seventeen-year-old West Virginian hillbilly, a high school dropout, a battery of aptitude tests and determined he could be a Tin Man. And it wasn’t easy. Only seven graduated ATC school out of twenty-two. After a year of intensive training at a high traffic control tower, Stephen G. Morris became a Tin Man, an air-traffic controller who can move heavy air traffic safely and expeditiously. After twenty-seven years as a Tin Man, Morris became the director of a Fortune 100 company and a senior vice president at the fourth largest integrated facility management company in the US; however, his biggest lifetime achievement will always be his time as a Tin Man. When he retired from the USAF in 1984, he took over a former FAA control tower on Cape Cod, one of the hundreds of facilities the FAA PATCO union walked out of and were fired by President Reagan. Tall Tales from the Tower is a peek into the control towers and RADAR air-traffic facilities at airports around the world with true stories of recovering lost aircraft, emergencies, safely landing seventeen fighters in severe thunderstorms, and air traffic control in a war zone.

Book Description
Tall Tales are two collections of interactive photo-poetry-prose bound in one volume. Each collection features twenty individual fables. Each photo-inspired poem is accompanied by a blank page, inviting the reader to reflect, spin their own tale—scrapbook style. True to the age-old tradition of storytelling, a tale only gets better over time as it is told, retold, and embellished. Where did the tales come from? Growing up, woodlands were my playground, and they have always held a sense of enchantment. To me, the trees never felt lifeless or static but were rather the beholders of history—fact and legend. To this day, my inner child loves to listen to the whispered tales told by rustling leaves and swaying branches. The unique markings of their bark and the particular features of their windblown shapes add to the sense of aliveness they are exuding. The entire creation of this book—process and content as well as layout—came about in an inspired and inspiring journey. As I’ve noted in the introduction, found in the center page, the book was writing me rather than the other way around. True to form of all my creative expression, I never quite know where my adventure will take me. I’ve come to appreciate the unfolding of each step, realizing my job is to allow, to observe, to witness, to discover, and to document what reveals itself to me. It is my sincere wish that the reader will enjoy their journey of discovery as much as I have mine.

Book Description
Tall Tales is a collection of short stories. Hey Good Lookin is a story about a young woman who discovers that she doesn’t have a favorite song. What’s wrong with her? Does everybody else have a favorite song? Is this more evidence of her social awkwardness? She will try to fix it. Rescued is about memorials to those we’ve lost. For some, remembering causes us to retreat into an uncomfortable place; to relive the trauma. The Plowman is a profile of life in a small village and the dynamics of loyalty and alienation.

Book Description
"No summary can do justice to the strange appeal of this unusual, short book, which is at once a crime novel, a comic novel and a serious political satire on contemporary Ukraine." —Anne Applebaum, The Wall Street Journal With the collapse of the Soviet Union, newly-free Ukraine is a shell-shocked land . . . In poverty-and-violence-wracked Kyiv, unemployed writer Viktor Zolotaryov leads a down-and-out life with his only friend, Misha, a penguin that he rescued when the local zoo started getting rid of animals it couldn't feed. Even more nerve-wracking for Victor: a local mobster has taken a shine to Misha and wants to borrow him for events. But Viktor thinks he’s finally caught a break when he lands a well-paying job at the Kyiv newspaper writing “living obituaries” of local dignitaries—articles to be filed for use when the time comes. The only thing is, the time always seems to come as soon as Viktor finishes writing the article. Slowly understanding that his own life may be in jeopardy, Viktor also realizes that the only thing that might be keeping him alive is his penguin.

Book Description
His younger brothers and sisters were in shock. BEN ROBERTSON, fifteen, son of a South Texas share-cropper and with dreams of being a cowboy, started walking toward town. He climbed in a boxcar and rode three days and nights to Channing, Texas where his older brother, FRED ROBERTSON, was working on a ranch. Fred got him a job and Ben spent the rest of his life, mostly horseback. Four years later, his younger brother, ALTON ROBERTSON, also fifteen, walked that same dusty road with the smaller kids running along behind, pulling on his sleeve and begging him to come back. But, he climbed into a boxcar, riding day and night with no food or water, and hopped off in Channing, just as Ben had done. He caught a ride with a supply wagon out to the ranch where Fred and Ben were working and they got him a job. His childhood was spent riding rough horses, rounding up cattle, branding, shipping, and sleeping on the ground. Alton and Ben learned the cowboy life the hard way, by experience. Life on big Texas ranches in the twentys was hard. Long days in the saddle for weeks at a time caused many a cowboy to look toward the horizon, in the direction of some small town where occasional Saturday night dances were held. Alton and Ben made many of those rough-house dances where pretty girls were scarce and fights were common and they never turned down either, the pretty girls or the fights. Bucking horses, runaway horses, wild horses, and lots of good horses, Alton learned the cowboy way just as many other young men had done before him. Ride those bucking horses or draw your pay and hike back to town. As time passed, he found a sweetheart, got married, lived in a one room shack without the benefit of electricity, plumbing or running water, raised a family, and served his country in the US Army. Later in life, Alton owned a wind mill rig with Ben, broke horses, worked at the sale barn in Dalhart, Texas, purchased a tough bar in Lawton, Oklahoma from his brother-in-law, EMERY COWLEY, and eventually bought a good grass ranch in the northwest Arkansas town of Green Forest. He settled down there for the reminder of his life, running a small cow herd, helping his neighbors, and meeting the three best friends of his life, CLAY THARP, and his brothers, Claude, Clell, and Clinton. The lives of true cowboys are colored into this account of four generations of a family that lived, enjoyed and overcame the hardships of working on the ranges of Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. It is compiled for the appreciation of all who have been cowboys or have ancestors whose lives were enriched by cowboy life. This book opens the corral gate beckoning to the young ones who feel the calling to live in an honorable, hard-working and determined commitment to life that few find nowadays. Enjoy the hardscrabble humor, sweat and endurance of those who have preceded us in this great adventure of the American West. Chimp Robertson

Book Description
“I can cure Maxwell, Mr Anderson. There’s a new gene treatment that can stimulate growth. It’s still being tested, it’s not licensed, it’s not authorised – but I believe it can be effective in this case.” Meet Maxwell Anderson, the boy who never stops growing! Born fighting for his life, an experimental treatment gave him the chance to survive – but with unexpected results. His unusual condition makes him an outcast from his local community and attracts attention from the British Government, sinister international agencies and religious fanatics. Maxwell’s father, Mark, suffers personal tragedy, betrayal and heartbreak, and experiences the joys of parenthood and a new romance, as he strives to provide the remotest semblance of a normal life for his extraordinary son. As friends old and new rally to help, Mark is innocently unaware that some people are not quite as they seem. As Maxwell ages and his condition gets ever more bizarre, rival groups battle to control him, a father’s love for his son grows ever more intense, and an increasingly desperate situation calls for extreme measures… The Tall Tale of Maxwell Anderson explores themes of how society reacts to a person who is ‘different’, but first and foremost, this is a story of a father’s love for his son. This fast-paced, non-technical novel is perfect to escape with and unwind, and will appeal to anyone looking for a story crammed with memorable characters, unforgettable scenes and gut-wrenching emotion.
