Effective leadership is often deemed essential to the daily operations of manufacturing (Muddle, 2020). In recent years, many researchers have found employee engagement has declined and is negatively impacting productivity, employee morale, and employee engagement. While leadership is widely acknowledged as a primary factor influencing employee engagement, not all leadership styles effectively establish and enhance employee engagement (Chandrasekara, 2019). No known studies have investigated the relationship between leadership style and employee engagement in the non-alcoholic beverage industry. The purpose of this quantitative study is to examine transformational, transactional, and laissez-faire leadership styles to see if there is a significant relationship to employee engagement. The study used a correlational research design to examine which leadership styles resulted in the highest and lowest levels of employee engagement. The Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (Bass & Avolio, 1995) and the Gallup Q12 employee engagement survey collected data from 108 full-time hourly and salaried employees at two non-alcoholic manufacturing plants in North Carolina and South Carolina. Research results revealed employee engagement had strong positive correlations with transformational and transactional leadership styles but a negative correlation with laissez-faire leadership style. Similarly, transformational leadership ranked highest in employee engagement, while laissez-faire leadership was lowest. Given the advantages and disadvantages of each leadership style, organizations must determine which leadership style has a significant influence on job performance and employee engagement. This study can help senior leaders identify and develop training programs to teach and encourage specific types of leadership behavior beneficial to influencing employee engagement.

This phenomenological study explored leadership best practices among senior managers in the telecommunications industry to determine the perceived effects that such routines had on actual employee performance. The study took place in Southern Georgia in the United States from January 16 to February 18, 2014 and involved interviews with ten selected managers who held the role of customer service manager for a minimum of 2 years and were identified as top performers based on the ranking and rating reports from industry data. Participants identified employee-oriented perspectives on leadership, performance, process, learning, training, and development as key factors in improving follower performance. The research determined perceived best leadership practices that play a role in nurturing a work environment, enabling the organization to become more productive and competitive. It was determined that leaders should create a working environment where there is increased employee engagement and participation; communicate goals, gain employee understanding, and apply communication styles that fit the need of each employee at all levels; identify and plan opportunities for growth for employees through training and development; recognize the importance of personally engaging with their employees; and, understand the importance of having regular meetings to update employees about new products and services. This will result is greater employee decision-making ability and in turn a more productive employee with a higher level of performance.

Over the past five years, North Carolina community colleges have experienced a plethora of rapid changes, which can have a negative impact on employee engagement. Individuals who possess a transformational style of leadership typically inspire employees to engage in their work despite a rapidly changing environment. The specific business problem in this research study was a lack of understanding of how transformational leaders in North Carolina community colleges were inspiring employees to engage in their jobs during a rapidly changing environment. To address this significant issue, the researcher interviewed a group of senior transformational leaders from various community colleges within the system, to learn specific narrative accounts of how inspiration was occurring. The findings of this study contained six themes, which provided a selection of best practices that future leaders could follow. The best practices included activities, processes, ideas, and events that the transformational leaders were using to address employee engagement issues. The overarching theme discovered in this study was that there are no perfect examples of how inspiration should take place. The best way a leader could attempt to inspire employee engagement was to embody the character traits associated with the transformational leadership style by building relationships, providing them with resources, or investing in their future. From a biblical application standpoint, the findings of this study should challenge Christian business leaders to utilize a transformational leadership style to develop employees to use their God-given talents and abilities for his glory.

The performance of a business has been showed to be related to the engagement levels of the employees who work in it. Understanding what levers can be used to influence the engagement levels of employees was the objective of this study. Considering that the information and communications technology (ICT) sector is the base from which the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) will build from, these employees will be vital to taking advantage of the opportunities presented by the 4IR. The study looked specifically at employees who are knowledge workers and are employed in the information and communications technology sector in South Africa. The theory base of the study is informed by behavioural and jobs demandsresources theory, using both to understand employee engagement and the key drivers thereof. The study took a qualitative, inductive and exploratory approach to understand what the key drivers of employee engagement were for the employees in the ICT sector. The data collection consisted of 13 face-to-face interviews, which were then analysed to come to an understanding on the topic. The key findings revealed that the leadership style of management and the team culture are the biggest drivers of employee engagement in the ICT sector.
