Cephalometric Evaluation of Skeletal and Dentoalveolar Effects of Twin-Block Appliance and Van Beek Headgear-activator (vBHGA) in the Correction of Class II Malocclusion

Book Description
Objective: To evaluate the cephalometric skeletal and dentoalveolar short-term effects of Twin Block (TB) and van Beek Headgear Activator (vBHGA) appliances, in the correction of skeletal Class II malocclusion (ANB≥5) in growing patients as determined by the CVM method, in comparison with a growing untreated control. Materials and Methods: Pre (T1) and post-functional appliance (T2) lateral cephalograms were retrospectively obtained for the vBHGA (n=46), TB (n=45), and control (n=45) groups. The groups were also stratified into horizontal or vertical using Jarabak ratio values. A customized cephalometric analysis and superimposition-based measurements were performed. Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) regression models at the 5% level of significance were used. Results: Both appliances equally improved the jaw relationship. For vBHGA, they were: ANB (1.590; p=0.00) and Harvold Difference (2.51mm; p

Pediatric Sleep Medicine
Author: David Gozal
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030655741
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 719
Book Description
This book provides comprehensive coverage of all aspects related to pediatric sleep and its associated disorders. It addresses the ontogeny and maturational aspects of physiological sleep and circadian rhythms, as well as the effects of sleep on the various organ systems as a function of development. Organized into nine sections, the book begins with a basic introduction to sleep, and proceeds into an extensive coverage of normative sleep and functional homeostasis. Part three then concisely examines the humoral and developmental aspects of sleep, namely the emerging role of metabolic tissue and the intestinal microbiota in regulation. Parts four, five, and six discuss diagnoses methods, techniques in sleep measurement, and specific aspects of pharmacotherapy and ventilator support for the pediatric patient. Various sleep disorders are explored in part seven, followed by an in-depth analysis of obstructive sleep apnea in part eight. The book concludes with discussions on the presence of sleep issues in other disorders such as Down syndrome, obesity, cystic fibrosis, and asthma. Written by recognized leaders in the field, Pediatric Sleep Medicine facilitates an extensive learning experience for practicing physicians who encounter specific sleep-related issues in their practice.

Book Description
This multiauthor clinical guide provides an evidence-based overview of orthodontic management during development of the dentition. It begins with an illustrated account of normal dental development and then covers the management of problems that are commonly seen during this process. These include acquired problems, such as caries, space loss and dental trauma, developmental anomalies, including variation in tooth number and eruption defects. In addition, detailed consideration is given to the interceptive management of class II and class III malocclusion and transverse discrepancies. There is an emphasis on evidence-based management of these developmental problems and each chapter is richly illustrated with clinical examples.
