Book Description
Excerpt from Short Line to the Roman Catholic Church Thomas Rev. Father, how long have you been a Catholic '3 Father My friend, this is a blessing I have enjoyed all the days of my life. Being born of Catholic parents, they brought me 11p in the church, founded more than 1800 years ago not by man, but by Jesus Christ Himself. In this holy church, with the help and grace of God, I shall live and die. Thomas: Indeed, Father, you are very positive. You seem to entertain no doubts as to your faith and, of course, for you this must be a source of great pleasure. Catholics, I have noticed, are not tossed to and fro by every 'wind of doctrine.' By the way, are there many Back-sliders among you '3 Father: There is a black sheep in every ock; however I may say without fear of contradiction, that no Catholic has ever denied the faith on his death-bed. This reminds me of Melanchthon's famous words to his dying mother: 'the Protestant doctrine6 1 ort line. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Catholic Reform: Letters, Fragments, Discourses, by Father Hyacinthe Prie Father There are two other courses, but only two other courses, open in such cases. One is that each dissentient should found a sect of his own. For educated men for those who take a serious view of the whole position of Christendom at this time - it is probable that there are few to whom such a step will commend itself. Another course would be1 that of complete individual isolation from all ecclesiastical organizations whatever. This may possibly be the ultimate issue to which the world is tending. But there are many reasons for re garding such an issue as far distant. And, therefore, in the meantime, the principle on which the Liberal or Old Catholics profess to act has a paramount claim on all reflecting men, and it may be useful to show that their confession of it is not new or solitary. The struggle of the Old Catholics against the Ultra montanes is virtually the same which in different degrees is maintained against what may be called the Ultramontanes in each of the churches of Christendom.
