Book Description
The definitive collection of works by one of the Tang Dynasty's most eccentric (and badly-behaved) poets, now back in print for the first time in decades. Li He is the bad-boy poet of the late Tang dynasty. He began writing at the age of seven and died at twenty-six from alcoholism or, according to a later commentator, “sexual dissipation,” or both. An obscure and unsuccessful relative of the imperial family, he would set out at dawn on horseback, pause, write a poem, and toss the paper away. A servant boy followed him to collect these scraps in a tapestry bag. Long considered far too extravagant and weird for Chinese taste, Li He was virtually excluded from the poetic canon until the mid-twentieth century. Today, as the translator and scholar Anne M. Birrell, writes, “Of all the Tang poets, even of all Chinese poets, he best speaks for our disconcerting times.” Modern critics have compared him to Rimbaud, Baudelaire, Keats, and Trakl. The Collected Poems of Li He is the only comprehensive selection of his surviving work (most of his poems were reputedly burned by his cousin after his death, for the honor of the family), rendered here in crystalline translations by the noted scholar J. D. Frodsham.

Book Description
This book invites snorkelers and divers on an educational visit to the most important ecosystems of the Mediterranean Sea. Keystone species from brown algae to dolphins are presented in their marine habitats and understood as part of a complex ecological system. Instead of grouping animals and plants taxonomically, we have organised them according to the eight main habitats of the Mediterranean Sea. Our journey starts with different types of rocky grounds, then takes you further to the Mediterranean’s sandy and muddy grounds, and finally ends with the fish and dolphins of the blue open sea. You will be introduced to 220 ecologically significant animal and plant species via the texts of Daniel Abed-Navandi, a long-time lecturer on the biodiversity of the Mediterranean Sea at the University of Vienna, and the photographs of Georg Glaeser, the master behind the camera, who captures marine life on the spot.

Book Description
JOE BORLAND and Captain Beachboy deliver Lazarus team scientists to Bezo Metro Headquarters and find things in upheaval, so the rest of 9-Squad is ordered in to provide security. The Variant Squad has been shaken and bloodied over the last twenty-four hours with a rising body count, and there hasn’t been time for wounds to heal or for the dead recruits to be replaced. But the Bezo Board of Directors has put Lazarus specialists in charge of efforts to halt the Variant Effect outbreak in Metro, and end the Ziploc that holds the city in quarantine. The veterans Borland and Hyde are suspicious of the change in command but cannot override their questionable orders or abandon their squad to a dubious mission. As they prepare to join the scientists underground and open research labs that have been sealed for decades, 9-Squad finds the enigmatic company man, Brass, is working the graveyard shift and overseeing a top secret project of his own. Brass is in survival mode and his “Plan B” has hit a few bumps, but that’s not the worst of it. There have been reports of unusual sounds and sightings that lend some truth to the old rumors that the HQ basement levels are haunted. The squad must investigate the eerie phenomena, but all the signs point to something far more tangible and terrifying than the dead. Borland, Hyde and the frazzled 9-Squad must decide who they can trust as lethal forces gather, and avenues of escape begin to close. The only way to save their skins and protect the public from annihilation may involve a terrifying descent into darkness. Explore the MADHOUSE with Gas Light, second stage in the final chapters of The Variant Effect Series.

The infection still haunts the ravaged landscape despite a decade passing since survivors first felt their sanity return. Pop Dawson travels the Barter Diamond in search of canned food and other treasures to trade while dodging the bandits and beasts that menace the trail. Like most survivors, he has started a new life to keep the old one secret, but he is forced out of hiding and into danger when a girl is kidnapped by northern raiders. Book Description
In this third volume of a planned five-volume series, David Roy provides a complete and annotated translation of the famous Chin P'ing Mei, an anonymous sixteenth-century Chinese novel that focuses on the domestic life of His-men Ch'ing, a corrupt, upwardly mobile merchant who maintains a harem of six wives and concubines. This work, known primarily for its erotic realism, is also a landmark in the development of narrative art--not only from a specifically Chinese perspective but also in a world-historical context. Written during the second half of the sixteenth century and first published in 1618, The Plum in the Golden Vase is noted for its surprisingly modern technique. With the possible exception of The Tale of Genji (ca. 1010) and Don Quixote (1605, 1615), there is no earlier work of prose fiction of equal sophistication in world literature. Although its importance in the history of Chinese narrative has long been recognized, the technical virtuosity of the author, which is more reminiscent of the Dickens of Bleak House, the Joyce of Ulysses, or the Nabokov of Lolita than anything in earlier Chinese fiction, has not yet received adequate recognition. This is partly because all of the existing European translations are either abridged or based on an inferior recension of the text. This translation and its annotation aim to faithfully represent and elucidate all the rhetorical features of the original in its most authentic form and thereby enable the Western reader to appreciate this Chinese masterpiece at its true worth. Replete with convincing portrayals of the darker side of human nature, it should appeal to anyone interested in a compelling story, compellingly told.
