The purpose of this report is to describe how New Brunswick's wild and cultured salmonid programs can complement each other in the management of the province's inland fisheries, emphasizing trout species culture and stocking protocols that will minimize effects on wild trout. The report begins with principles of wild and cultured salmonid management, including a suggested fish culture policy. It then presents protocols for the conservation and protection of wild and hatchery genetic resources. These protocols cover rearing and stocking, broodstock selection and use, and disease issues. This is followed by an outline of stocking categories and protocols and a review of stocking rates for Atlantic salmon and brook trout. The final sections list broodstock and production requirements for 1998-2002, fish handling and transportation guidelines, and proposed research projects. Includes glossary.
