A collection of 22 outstanding new plays written by YPT students in elementary school, middle school and high school. For more than twenty years, Young Playwrights' Theater (YPT) has worked to inspire young people to realize the power of their own voices. We teach students to express themselves through the art of playwriting because we believe in the power of creative self-expression. Our programs develop students' language skills and empower them with the creativity, confidence and critical thinking skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. In 2017 and 2018, over 500 original plays were produced in YPT's In-School Playwriting Program and After-School Playwriting Program. These plays were read by professional actors throughout the play development process. Out of the 500 plays generated, YPT selected 22 to be published in this book, and out of those 22, 14 plays were selected to be produced in the 2018 New Play Festival. The New Play Festival is an annual celebration of these bold new voices, and professional directors, actors, designers and dramaturgs come together to bring each play to life.
