Book Description
Advances in Delay-Tolerant Networks: Architecture and Enhanced Performance, Second Edition provides an important overview of delay-tolerant networks (DTNs) for researchers in electronics, computer engineering, telecommunications and networking for those in academia and R&D in industrial sectors. Part I reviews the technology involved and the prospects for improving performance, including different types of DTN and their applications, such as satellite and deep-space communications and vehicular communications. Part II focuses on how the technology can be further improved, addressing topics, such as data bundling, opportunistic routing, reliable data streaming, and the potential for rapid selection and dissemination of urgent messages. Opportunistic, delay-tolerant networks address the problem of intermittent connectivity in a network where there are long delays between sending and receiving messages, or there are periods of disconnection. Reviews the different types of DTN and shows how they can be applied in satellite and deep-space communications, vehicular communications (including unmanned aerial), and during large-scale disasters Considers security concerns for DTN and potential for rapid selection and dissemination of urgent messages Reviews the breadth of areas in which DTN is already providing solutions Covers the prospects for DTN's wider adoption and development of standards

Book Description
Intelligent Decision Technologies (IDT) seeks an interchange of research on intelligent systems and intelligent technologies which enhance or improve decision making in industry, government and academia. The focus is interdisciplinary in nature, and includes research on all aspects of intelligent decision technologies, from fundamental development to the applied system. This volume represents leading research from the Third KES International Symposium on Intelligent Decision Technologies (KES IDT’11), hosted and organized by the University of Piraeus, Greece, in conjunction with KES International. The symposium was concerned with theory, design, development, implementation, testing and evaluation of intelligent decision systems. Topics include decision making theory, intelligent agents, fuzzy logic, multi-agent systems, Bayesian networks, optimization, artificial neural networks, genetic algorithms, expert systems, decision support systems, geographic information systems, case-based reasoning, time series, knowledge management systems, rough sets, spatial decision analysis, and multi-criteria decision analysis. These technologies have the potential to revolutionize decision making in many areas of management, healthcare, international business, finance, accounting, marketing, military applications, ecommerce, network management, crisis response, building design, information retrieval, and disaster recovery for a better future. Book Description
This book presents a comprehensive analysis of D2D communication over LTE-A band. The book uses 3GPP LTE-A as a baseline and explains all fundamental requirements for deploying D2D network under cellular systems from an architectural, technical and business point of view. The contributors explain the standardization activities of Release 12 of LTE-A, which has been recently acknowledged as support of D2D communication in LTE-A. The text updates the research community on the D2D roadmap as well as new features emerging for consideration in 3GPP.

Book Description
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 23rd International IFIP conference on Optical Network Design and Modeling, ONDM 2019, held in Athens, Greece, in May 2019. The 39 revised full papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 87 submissions. The papers focus on cutting-edge research in established areas of optical networking as well as their adoption in support of a wide variety of new services and applications. This involves the most recent trends in networking including 5G and beyond, big data and network data analytics, cloud/edge computing, autonomic networking, artificial intelligence assisted networks, secure and resilient networks, that drive the need for increased capacity, efficiency, exibility and adaptability in the functions that the network can perform. In this context new disaggregated optical network architectures were discussed, exploiting and integrating novel multidimensional photonic technology solutions as well as adopting open hardware and software platforms relying on software defined networking (SDN), and network function virtualization (NFV) to allow support of new business models and opportunities.

Book Description
Energy efficiency and low-carbon technologies are key contributors to curtailing the emission of greenhouse gases that continue to cause global warming. The efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions also strongly affect electrical power systems. Renewable sources, storage systems, and flexible loads provide new system controls, but power system operators and utilities have to deal with their fluctuating nature, limited storage capabilities, and typically higher infrastructure complexity with a growing number of heterogeneous components. In addition to the technological change of new components, the liberalization of energy markets and new regulatory rules bring contextual change that necessitates the restructuring of the design and operation of future energy systems. Sophisticated component design methods, intelligent information and communication architectures, automation and control concepts, new and advanced markets, as well as proper standards are necessary in order to manage the higher complexity of such intelligent power systems that form smart grids. Due to the considerably higher complexity of such cyber-physical energy systems, constituting the power system, automation, protection, information and communication technology (ICT), and system services, it is expected that the design and validation of smart-grid configurations will play a major role in future technology and system developments. However, an integrated approach for the design and evaluation of smart-grid configurations incorporating these diverse constituent parts remains evasive. The currently available validation approaches focus mainly on component-oriented methods. In order to guarantee a sustainable, affordable, and secure supply of electricity through the transition to a future smart grid with considerably higher complexity and innovation, new design, validation, and testing methods appropriate for cyber-physical systems are required. Therefore, this book summarizes recent research results and developments related to the design and validation of smart grid systems.
