Excerpt from Zeitschrift fr gyptische Sprache und Altertumskunde, 1918, Vol. 55 Um seine neuen Gedanken gegen das Alte scharf abzugrenzen, fat er (s. 17 u. 18) die bis zu seiner Abhandlung von andern geleistete Arbeit zu einem knappen Bilde zusammen. Diesem Bilde vom Stande der Arbeiten an Tell cl-amarna kann aber nicht scharf genug widersprochen werden: es ist ein Zerrbild. Denn der Leser mu aus ihm den Eindruck einer sich gegen neue Gedanken verschlieenden beschrnkten Starrheit bekommen, ein Eindruck, der ganz im Gegensatz steht zu der Unbefangenheit und der lebendigen, fast ber reichen, Vielseitigkeit, mit der diese Fragen in Wirklichkeit angesehen worden sind. Nach borchardts Worten (s. 17) sind unsere Vorstellungen ber die Kunst Religions und allgemeine Geschichte der Zeit Amenophis des IV bereits in den zwanziger bis vierziger Jahren des vorigen Jahrhunderts entstanden und bis jetzt wie ein Dogma unangetastet geblieben Es mute also scheinbar erst Bonannrs Abhandlung kommen, um nach 75 Jahren neue Gedanken zu bringen.
