Book Description
Contrary to popular belief, economic growth is not the antithesis of environmental quality; rather, the two go hand in hand if the incentives are right. The author shows how, by developing and protecting the institutions of freedom rather than regulating human use of natural resources through political processes, we can have our environmental cake and eat it too.

Book Description
Fixing Everything provides citizens with a blueprint to retake control of the federal government and reassert American leadership in a world gone astray. This integrated solution will limit government spending to a reasonable percentage of GDP; close agencies responsible for 60% of government spending; dramatically simplify taxes; reduce, quantify, and manage entitlement commitments; present a new form of free market healthcare organization; confront pension liabilities; encourage legal immigration, while discouraging illegal immigration; contain legal awards and costs, while encouraging early settlement; reduce crime; and put an end to the "nanny" state. Citizens will assume personal and financial responsibility for their actions and well-being. A new form of safety-net will avoid mal-incentives, while encouraging effort and initiative.

Book Description
Life is like an etch-a-sketch. It's only ever clear when it's brand new. After that, no matter how much you wipe over the previous stuff, you can always see the scratch lines, and it never looks the same again. In survival mode following a messy separation, Lara Abdel-Aziz is estranged from her family and out of touch with her best friend Samira. Making ends meet by working a dead-end job at a fast-food shop, she also sings at a local bar, where she enjoys the freedom to be whoever she likes. Bar owner Leo is good company, but her only other interactions are with her mostly absent flatmate Icky, and her neighbour Angela, who owns a New Age store and desperately wants Lara to get in touch with her higher self. After a break-in at work forces Lara into counselling, and an encounter with an old friend leads to an unexpected connection, she must start to unpack the events of her life and make peace with the past. But are some things too broken to ever be fixed? A moving story of healing, connection and fate.

Book Description
In A Leap of Faith: A Mother’s Journey, Christie Thomas takes readers on the roller coaster ride of mental and physical illness, abuse, loss, and grief, interspersing the ups and downs, curves and bends, with moments of exhilaration. The mother of four children, Christie honestly and transparently tells the story of her family’s journey through childhood cancer, teenage suicide, and the death of two children. She recounts the day that she reconnected with her two boys, her father, and her mother, who are safe, happy, and waiting for her on the other side of the veil separating life and “death.” As she awakened to the spiritual world, and her unique place in it, she discovered new purpose and joy in the adventure of life. This is a story of suffering and loss, but also of love, hope, resilience, support, and the search for meaning.

Book Description
In his new collection, poet Ariel Dorfman explores death, grief and redemption, hoping that “the light I have invented, the words with which we have all been blessed, will sweeten the death that fast approaches for me.” The famed writer, academic and activist writes about intimate family matters and revisits recurring themes in his work, including war, social justice and climate change. In a series of poems written from the perspective of deceased historical figures to contemporary politicians and soldiers, he warns about the need for reckoning and atonement. In one, Pablo Picasso speaks to Colin Powell, asking why his famous painting depicting the horror of war, Guernica, was covered when the secretary of state spoke about the invasion of Iraq at the United Nations. “Were you afraid that the mother / would leap from her image and say / no he is the one / they are the ones who will bomb / from afar / they are the ones who will kill / the child.” In another, Salvador Allende encourages Barack Obama to fight for his beliefs, “So that when you arrive on these shores / and look back as I do, you will have no regrets.” Others explore connections to loved ones, including “the love of my life, Angelica, the woman who helped me survive exile and tribulations and peopled my world with hope.” He writes about the passionate love the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan felt for his wife, which led to the construction of the Taj Mahal, and imagines conversations between William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes, who died within hours of each other. Neither escaped the iron rule of mortality: “The story of our own death is the one experience we are unable to transmit to anybody else.” Though written by an internationally acclaimed intellectual, these incredibly moving poems share the most human of emotions and expose Dorfman’s vulnerability as he embarks on the last leg of his journey.

Book Description
Détente or Destruction, 1955-57 continues publication of Routledge's multi-volume critical edition of Bertrand Russell's shorter writings. Between September 1955 and November 1957 Russell published some sixty-one articles, reviews, statements, contributions to books and letters to editors, over fifty of which are contained in this volume. The texts, several of them hitherto unpublished, reveal the deepening of Russell's commitment to the anti-nuclear struggle, upon which he embarked in the previous volume of Collected Papers (Man's Peril, 1954-55). Continuing with the theme of nuclear peril, this volume contains discussion of nuclear weapons, world peace, prospects for disarmament and British-Soviet friendship against the backdrop of the Cold War. One of the key papers in this volume is Russell's message to the inaugural conference of the Pugwash movement, which Russell was instrumental in launching and which became an influential, independent forum of East-West scientific cooperation and counsel on issues as an internationally agreed nuclear test-ban. In addition to the issues of war and peace, Russell, now in his eighties, continued to take an interest in a wide variety of themes. Russell not only addresses older controversies over nationalism and empire, religious belief and American civil liberties, he also confronts head-on the new and pressing matters of armed intervention in Hungary and Suez, and of the manufacture and testing of the British hydrogen bomb. This volume includes seven interviews ranging from East-West Relations after the Geneva conference to a Meeting with Russell.
