Because of several bankrupt stocks thrown on the market together with the fact that many crops grown without proper selection (largely for firms that have failed disastrously the past season) are offered at any price, the seed trade this season seems to have become largely demoralized. A reaction is sure to follow. Good seeds cannot be handled at a living profit for less than the prices quoted herein. While we do not seek large profits, yet we are not in the business solely for pleasure. Burpee's seeds are the most Widely advertised and among the most popular with American planters. By comparison of the prices quoted in our market gardeners' list, sent herewith, intelligent dealers will readily see that they can make a good margin of profit by handling burpee's seeds, and at the same time build up a paying business. Excerpt from Wholesale Price List: Leonard's Seeds; January 1, 1897 Our reputation has been built up by furnishing seeds of the best quality as to purity and germination, and we shall always endeavor -to furnish the best seeds that can be pro cured, and make prices as reasonable as possible. We are in a position to furnish good seeds at as low figures as any reliable house, but we cannot be expected to compete in price with bankrupt stocks and seeds of question able character. There are several large lots of such seeds being offered this season, and there' never was a time when seed dealers should be more careful in regard to the quality 'of the seed they purchase, and the reputation of the house from whom they purchase it. Not bound by these prices for any definite time or quan tity, and subject to advance without notice. Prices quoted are f. O. B. Chicago. Bags, boxes and barrels, to insure safe transportation, are charged for at cost. Proportionately higher prices will be charged for quantities less than pound or bushel. Terms, June I, I897, without regard to date of purchase, or a discount of one per cent per month for unexpired time when paid before maturity: Crass seeds, potatoes, field seeds, onion sets and sunflower, net cash, without any time or discount whatever.
