Book Description
Are the recurring recessions of the capitalist world merely short-term adjustments to changing economic circumstances in a system that tends, in general, toward equilibrium? In this accessible study of the business cycle, Howard Sherman makes a powerful case that recessions and painful involuntary unemployment are endogenous to capitalism. Drawing especially on the work of Wesley Clair Mitchell, Karl Marx, and John M. Keynes, Sherman explains why the nature of the business cycle produces serious economic loss and misery during its contraction phase, just as it produces growth in its expansion phase. Book Description
This paper provides a brief historical journey of central banking in Latin America to shed light on the debate about monetary policy in the post-global financial crisis period. The paper distinguishes three periods in Latin America’s central bank history: the early years, when central banks endorsed the gold standard and coped with the collapse of this monetary system; a second period, in which central banks turned into development banks under the aegis of governments at the expense of increasing inflation; and the “golden years,” when central banks succeeded in preserving price stability in an environment of political independence. The paper concludes by cautioning against overburdening central banks in Latin America with multiple mandates as this could end up undermining their hard-won monetary policy credibility.

Book Description
As the global capitalist system continues to be plagued by systemic crisis, its deep contradictions buffet the world of work that is bound up with it transformative ways. The old Fordist and Keynesian state order has melted away to be replaced by a minimal, pro-business neoliberal state founded on the Intensive restructuring of economic and productive systems and work organisation. Labour deregulation, flexibility, super-exploitation and social precariousness have increasingly become the normal features of working-class life. In The Future of Work, Sotelo Valencia examines these paradigmatic transition-from social and labour relations based on job security, comprehensive collective agreements and guaranteed social rights, to new social relations that find their technical, political and organisational roots in job insecurity, work rotation and monumental social insecurity-that define our era. First published in Spanish by the Facultad de Ciencias Polìticas y Sociales de la UNAM and Editorial Miguel Ángel de Porrúa as Los rumbos del trabajo. Superxplotación y precariedad social en el siglo XXL Mexico. 2012.

Book Description
This book focuses on essential aspects of the theoretical foundations that support blended learning (BL) as a teaching training modality in tertiary education. Analyzing the changes in the world of education that lead to new ways of thinking and learning, it redefines the concept of blended learning at a time of constant growth in many universities around the world. This involves a shared reflection on the role of technology in the current university teacher education programs, as well as on the role that pedagogy plays in increasingly technology-driven contexts. Furthermore, the book presents pedagogical approaches to guide university professors in the design and implementation of blended learning courses. To this end, it describes some of the major models and approaches to BL instructional design, and examines issues related to the quality of BL training and the indicators to measure it, in order to identify those models that contribute to a better understanding of the dimensions that increase its effectiveness.
