Book Description
Throughout the Arab world, Islamist political movements are joining the electoral process. This change alarms some observers and excites other. In recent years, electoral opportunities have opened, and Islamist movements have seized them. But those opportunities, while real, have also been sharply circumscribed. Elections may be freer, but they are not fair. The opposition can run but it generally cannot win. Semiauthoritarian conditions prevail in much of the Arab world, even in the wake of the Arab Spring. How do Islamist movements change when they plunge into freer but unfair elections? How do their organizations (such as the Muslim Brotherhood) and structures evolve? What happens to their core ideological principles? And how might their increased involvement affect the political system? In When Victory Is Not an Option, Nathan J. Brown addresses these questions by focusing on Islamist movements in Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, and Palestine. He shows that uncertain benefits lead to uncertain changes. Islamists do adapt their organizations and their ideologies do bend—some. But leaders almost always preserve a line of retreat in case the political opening fizzles or fails to deliver what they wish. The result is a cat-and-mouse game between dominant regimes and wily movements. There are possibilities for more significant changes, but to date they remain only possibilities.

Book Description
Europe went to war in 1914 tot he sound of brass bands and cheering crowds; in every country, civilians and soldiers alike believed that the war would be won by Christmas time. By the time Christmas arrived, however, it became clear that this, indeed, would be a much longer war. In the months and years which followed, combatants perused the war with boundless intensity in order to emerge victorious. This was partially true of Germany where publicists pictured it as a life-and-death struggle for the survival of a nation surrounded by hostile enemies No nation involve din the conflict so completely mobilised its population, its resources, its energies into such a single-minded pursuit of the war. This unusual and incisive account chronicles Germany in World War 1 from the viewpoint of the solders who fought the battles and civilians who endured the ever increasing trauma of escalating casualties, widespread shortages, and declining conditions of living. It relates how Germany attempted to cope with a massive blockade, the scope of which had not been seen since the days of Napoleon, thus forcing German authorities to adopt a series of sometimes brutal measures, all of which rested on the underlying premise that victory, a clear-cut victory, could be the only acceptable option. Victory Must Be Ours explores the Germany which in 1914 took a prestigious leap into darkness. It explores the ingredients which make the Great War perhaps the single most fateful event in the Twentieth Century, setting in motion the most bloody conflict of all time, World War II.

Book Description
Festival of the Fatapult is a collection of short stories by Nathan G. Sellers. This book pays homage to and brings back the classic form of short story telling made popular by such American authors as Washington Irving, Stephen Crane, Edgar Allan Poe, Bret Harte, Edith Wharton, John Cheever, Raymond Carver, and a host of others. The book goes against the modern convention of short stories by bringing the hyperbolic back to what used to be one of the most popular forms of entertainment. In accordance with traditional short story form, Festival of the Fatapult spans a vast array of literary genres, from a touch of romanticism to a dab of gothic, from mystical and magical realism to fables and folk tales; part fantasy and part satire, this compilation is covered with absurdity and complimented with the Nathan G. Sellers style of literary entertainment. Contained in this book are eight short stories—all strange, thought-provoking, and comedic. There is something for everyone in these pages. Fans of classic short stories will love this book, and those who are not fans will soon become ones.
