Book Description
This document is a revision of the VDOT Manual of Practice for Planning Stormwater Management prepared in 1991 . The objective of this revised manual is to provide updated information regarding the management of stormwater at VDOT projects and facilities. This manual is significantly different from the previous manual, since this revision highlights differences in stormwater management practices as they are applied to both linear projects (i.e., roads) and facility projects (i.e., maintenance areas). This document purposely does not duplicate information easily found in other manuals such as the VDOT Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management Manual and the VDOT Drainage Manual but instead provides up-to-date findings on relevant federal, state, and local regulations and requirements and the latest data regarding the selection, design, and use of best management practices.

Book Description
The final report is in the form of a manual of practice for the VDOT to use in planning its stormwater management strategies. The manual was proposed to aid in the selection and design of erosion control practices and stormwater control practices for transportation projects in Virginia. Information obtained from Virginia, other states, and the literature was compiled to help describe the best management practices that will comply with the applicable regulations. Discussed herein are site selection, design of practices, and maintenance and safety considerations. Other topics discussed include applicable federal and state regulations and computer models.

A Guide for Best Management Practice (BMP) Selection in Urban Developed Areas
Author: Task Committee for Evaluating Best Management Practices
Publisher: ASCE Publications
ISBN: 9780784474976
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 64
Book Description
This guide examines permanent structural techniques, or Best Management Practices (BMPs), which can be used for retrofitting the stormwater management systems in existing developed areas. The advantages and disadvantages of each technique are explained to help engineering professionals select the BMP (or series of BMPs) best suited for removing pollutants from stormwater runoff at a particular location. The design factors considered include land availability, type of pollutant to be removed, groundwater levels, soil types, BMP costs, maintenance costs, and desired pollutant removal efficiency. The BMPs evaluated are ponds, alum treatment systems, constructed wetlands, sand filters, baffle boxes, inlet devices, vegetated swales, buffer strips, and infiltration/exfiltration trenches. A BMP Selection Guide, in an easy-to-use matrix format, aids in the decision-making process for BMP selections. Five design factors and five pollutant types (total suspended solids, total phosphorus, total nitrogen, heavy metals, and floating trash) are evaluated for each BMP in the matrix. BMPs presented in this guide were chosen based upon common availability, ease of maintenance, and an established track record.
