Une définition de ces dernières sera posée, ainsi que le profil des utilisateurs et les raisons de leur attirance pour ces médecines. Enfin, ce travail s'efforce de présenter une liste non exhaustive de CAM ayant fait l'objet d'études en oncologie, pouvant permettre au pharmacien de mieux répondre aux interrogations de ces patients.

L'utilisation des médecines complémentaires est en augmentation croissante dans la population, d'autant plus chez les personnes atteintes de maladies graves ou chroniques. Chez les patients atteints de cancer notamment, la maladie et les traitements, parfois très longs, très lourds, ont des retentissements physiques, psychologiques, et sociaux importants. La qualité de vie en est lourdement altérée. La médecine d'aujourd'hui se tourne de plus en plus vers une prise en charge globale du malade, en intégrant davantage d'interventions psychosociales. D'autant plus avec le développement des chimiothérapies par voie orale, le patient est amené à gérer seul son traitement et ses effets indésirables à domicile, conduisant à la prise d'automédication et de plus en plus, de médecines alternatives afin de l'aider à mieux supporter les cures. Le pharmacien d'officine a donc son rôle à jouer dans ce virage ambulatoire, tant au niveau de l'accompagnement du patient que de l'expertise médicamenteuse grâce aux entretiens pharmaceutiques et à l'éducation thérapeutique. - L'étude menée ici a permis d'évaluer la prévalence et les habitudes de prise des médecines alternatives et complémentaires chez les patients atteints de cancer au CHRU de Besançon afin d'évaluer l'ampleur du phénomène. Les entretiens pharmaceutiques déjà menés au sein du CHRU permettront d'ouvrir le débat à l'hôpital et de sensibiliser le corps médical.

Sollicitée au comptoir et lors de mon stage hospitalier par des patients atteints d'un cancer, souhaitant obtenir des informations au sujet des médecines complémentaires et alternatives, il m'est apparue essentiel de réaliser un travail de thèse. En effet, le nombre de patients atteints d'un cancer est en constante progression. Première cause de mortalité, le cancer a depuis 2003 mobilisé les pouvoirs publics par la mise en place de trois plans cancer. Face aux cancers, de nombreux patients ressentent le besoin d'être moins passif dans leur traitement et améliorer leur qualité de vie. Certains patients peuvent s'orienter vers les médecines complémentaires et/ou alternatives, peu ou pas proposées par la médecine conventionnelle. Ce sont des approches fondées sur une prise en charge holistique du patient. Le recours aux médecines complémentaires en cancérologie est en progression. Or cette médecine peut comporter aussi bien des risques que des bénéfices. Cette thèse comporte un état des lieux des médecines alternatives et complémentaires en cancérologie. Et également elle comporte deux éludes exploratoires menées auprès des patients atteints de cancer et de l'équipe officinale.
