The election of the President of the United States is an indirect vote in which citizens cast ballots for a slate of members of the U.S. Electoral College; these electors in turn directly elect the President. Presidential elections occur quadrennially. The most recent was the 2008 presidential election, held on November 4, 2008. The next presidential election will be the 2012 election, to be held on November 6. Under the U.S. Constitution, each state legislature is allowed to designate a way of choosing electors. Thus, the popular vote on Election Day is conducted by the various states and not directly by the federal government. The Democratic Party and Republic party are the two major contemporary political parties in the United States. Scholarly studies of electoral behavior have a long and vibrant history. My aim here is to provide a selective summary of that history, focusing on the presidential election results in United States of America by creating an interactive graphical tool. This tool will help both the teachers and the students. The students can learn about the US electoral history in an interactive way. As this is a graphical tool, the users can see the map of the United States of America and can click on the states shown on the map using a hotlink tool to see the electoral trends for the specific state for the past years. To demonstrate results in a better way, a coloring scheme has also been implemented. The users will be able to see the trends of presidential election results in past years for all states in the matrix form; the coloring scheme is implemented in the matrix too for easy distinction between democrats and republics in election results. A user of this tool can also select the year and see which state republicans won and which democrats won for that specific year on the map. There will be a help file by which users can get useful information about using this tool. Help items are classified according to tools available in this application. There is a distance measuring tool by which distance between two states can be measured. Teachers can give assignments to students based on this tool. This tool will make teaching and learning more interesting and interactive. A user needs to have JRE installed on his/her system. This tool is based on Java and Map Objects Java Edition 2. IDE Eclipse has been used to write code.

The expansion of suffrage and the introduction of elections are momentous political changes that represent only the first steps in the process of democratization. In the absence of institutions that protect the electoral autonomy of voters against a range of actors who seek to influence voting decisions, political rights can be just hollow promises. This book examines the adoption of electoral reforms that protected the autonomy of voters during elections and sought to minimize undue electoral influences over decisions made at the ballot box. Empirically, it focuses on the adoption of reforms protecting electoral secrecy in Imperial Germany during the period between 1870 and 1912. Empirically, the book provides a micro-historical analysis of the democratization of electoral practices, by showing how changes in district level economic and political conditions contributed to the formation of an encompassing political coalition supporting the adoption of electoral reforms.

In the late nineteenth century, Latin American exports boomed. From Chihuahua to Patagonia, producers sent industrial fibers, tropical fruits, and staple goods across oceans to satisfy the ever-increasing demand from foreign markets. In southern Mexico's Soconusco district, the coffee trade would transform rural life. A regional history of the Soconusco as well as a study in commodity capitalism, From the Grounds Up places indigenous and mestizo villagers, migrant workers, and local politicians at the center of our understanding of the export boom. An isolated, impoverished backwater for most of the nineteenth century, by 1920, the Soconusco had transformed into a small but vibrant node in the web of global commerce. Alongside plantation owners and foreign investors, a dense but little-explored web of small-time producers, shopowners, and laborers played key roles in the rapid expansion of export production. Their deep engagement with rural development challenges the standard top-down narrative of market integration led by economic elites allied with a strong state.
