Book Description
Agatha Christie's famous detective, Miss Marple has amazed everyone with her super ability to solve murders. Why hasn't any killer tried to knock her off when they learn she is on the case? In this satire a Miss Marble, quite different from Miss Marple, is to be murdered by a group of people out for revenge. A perfect settiing is a 500 year anniversary celebration of a castle located in Northern England. Bumbles, fumbles and outright stupidity foil attempts to kill her. Comic satire. Lisa Binion Author Story & My Thoughts: I grew up reading Agatha Christie's mysteries. I own all of them, and each one has been read several times. No criminal could get away with any wrongdoing if Miss Marple happened to be in the vicinity. With her long history of solving crime, have you ever wondered why no criminal ever tried to do away with her? Twelve Days of Christmas Mayhem and Murder is a mystery-comedy spoof in which Miss Marple is known as the hilarious Miss Marble. In this story, someone is trying to do away with her so she will no longer stick her nose where criminals feel it doesn't belong. Cheatham castle in northern England provides the setting for this story during a brutal British winter and the Christmas season. A 500-year anniversary is seen as a time to draw attention to the castle and prepare to turn it into a tourist magnet. During this celebration, the castle is full of guests and one or more of these guests wants snoopy old Miss Marble dead. Others among the visitors do not want her to stay alive. There are enough red herrings, attacks, narrow escapes, and murders to satisfy any fan of mystery fiction. I don't believe that there will ever be another Agatha Christie, but Aaron Knight has successfully written a satisfying spoof of one of the brilliant detectives she created. If you are a fan of Miss Marple stories, you might get a kick out of seeing her in a different light. I believe that even Agatha Christie herself would get a kick out of this spoof of one of her famous detectives.

Book Description
Pathologist Toni Day and her husband, Hal, are mystified when she starts receiving grisly Christmas cards depicting murders, each accompanied by a twisted verse from The Twelve Days of Christmas, and she and her partners are suddenly inundated with autopsies on the corresponding bodies. The victims are members of a jury that convicted Toni’s old boyfriend Robbie of kidnapping and sent him to prison. Robbie is now out on parole and is presumably systematically killing off the jury that put him there, but the true identity of the Jury Killer becomes unclear when another parolee, a pretty female police detective, and a newspaper reporter with an icepick get involved. To complicate matters further, Toni’s parents are visiting for Christmas. Toni teams up with her stepfather Nigel, a retired Scotland Yard chief inspector, to interpret clues and assist the police in a race against time to catch the killer or killers before they wipe out the entire jury and then come after Toni and Hal.

Book Description
Caryl Hopson and Susan R. Perkins collect historic narratives of murder and mayhem in Herkimer County. Herkimer County is steeped in history, from the settlement of the Mohawk Valley by Palatine German settlers to the flood of western migration with the opening of the Erie Canal. But the region also boasts an infamous history of high-profile homicides and crimes. Roxalana Druse murdered her abusive husband and became the last woman to be hanged in New York in 1887. The death of Grace Brown on scenic Big Moose Lake became one of the most famous cases in the country in 1906, inspiring author Theodore Dreiser's novel An American Tragedy. Psychological tests of intelligence were admitted into court for the first time in an acquittal of sixteen-year-old Jean Gianini in 1914.

Book Description
Killer Verse: Poems of Murder and Mayhem is a spine-tingling collection of terrifically creepy poems about the deadly art of murder. The villains and victims who populate these pages range from Cain and Abel and Bluebeard and his wives to Lizzie Borden, Jack the Ripper, and Mafia hit men. The literary forms they inhabit are just as varied, from the colorful melodramas of old Scottish ballads to the hard-boiled poetry of twentieth-century noir, from lighthearted comic riffs to profound poetic musings on murder. Robert Browning, Thomas Hardy, W. H. Auden, Stevie Smith, Mark Doty, Frank Bidart, Toi Derricotte, Lynn Emanuel, and Cornelius Eady are only a few of the many poets, old and new, whose work is captured in this heart-stopping—and criminally entertaining—collection.

Book Description
Southwestern Illinois experienced a plethora of violence during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Settlers and Native Americans clashed at the Wood River Settlement, while Abraham Lincoln dueled on a Mississippi River island. Racial strife led to the lynching of a Black schoolteacher in Belleville in 1903 and a deadly riot in East St. Louis fourteen years later. Benbow City was a latter-day Wild West town of saloons, gambling dens and brothels, and Pere Marquette State Park screened a cache of Nike missiles. From the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr.'s killer to the mystery surrounding Jean Lafitte's grave, John Dunphy examines the bloody ledger of southwestern Illinois.
