Book Description
It is shown that aerodynamic interference can produce unsteady flow over a fixed airfoil up to reduced frequencies of 6.4. The resulting pressure distributions are well behaved, repeatable and, within limits, predictable. Further it is shown that the resulting boundary layer velocity profile can be measured with the same precision as in the steady flow. (Author).

Book Description
The results of an investigation of boundary layers close to the stagnation point of an oscillating airfoil are reported. Two procedures for generating initial conditions - the characteristics-box scheme and a quasi-static approach - were investigated, and the quasi-static approach was shown to be appropriate provided the initial region was far from any flow separation. With initial conditions generated in this way, the unsteady boundary-layer equations were solved for the flow in the leading-edge region of a NACA 0012 airfoil oscillating from 0 degrees to 5 degrees. Results were obtained for both laminar and turbulent flow, and, in the latter case, the effect of transition was assessed by specifying its occurrence at different locations. The results demonstrate the validity of the numerical scheme and suggest that the procedures should be applied to calculation of the entire flow around oscillating airfoils. (Author).

Book Description
A comprehensive literature search was conducted and those experiments related to unsteady turbulent boundary-layer behavior were cataloged. In addition, an international survey of industrial, university, and government research laboratories was made, in which new and ongoing experimental programs associated with unsteady turbulent boundary-layer research were identified. Pertinent references were reviewed and classified based on the technical emphasis of the various experiments that include instantaneous or ensemble-averaged profiles of boundary-layer variables are stressed. Detailed reviews that include descriptions of the experimental apparatus, flow conditions, summaries of acquired data, and significant conclusions are made. The measurements made in these experiments that exist in digital form have been stored on magnetic tape, and instructions are presented for accessing these data sets for further analysis. (Author).

Book Description
Aerodynamic characteristics have been measured for a NACA 0012 airfoil in a non-uniform unsteady flow field. Test parameters studied included reduced frequencies based on semichord of 0 to 6.4 Reynolds number of 700,000 to 1,450,000, and airfoil angles of attack of 0 to 15deg. Quantities measured were upwash velocity fields, turbulent boundary layer velocities and Reynolds stresses, and attached and separated flow pressure distributions. The influence of frequency, pressure gradient, unsteady amplitude and measurement location are discussed. Results are compared with previous results and physical models for steady and unsteady flows. Superposition of unsteady and mean quantities appears to be valid for low pressure gradient attached flow, but becomes increasingly inadequate as separation is approached. Propagation of unsteady pressures in separated flow resembles a superposition of a disturbance convected downstream from the leading edge onto the standing wave patter found in attached flow, but includes numerous additional complexes.

Book Description
This volume contributes to one of the most important topics of Fluid Mechanics in future and presents recent research results on control theory and applied control methods. Understanding and handling of control methods of nonlinear systems, typical of Fluid Mechanics, is the key to reduce losses and to improve the efficiency and safety of technical processes.

Book Description
Most of the fundamental concepts of unsteady viscous flows have been known since the early part of the century. However, the past decade has seen an unprecedented number of publications in this area. In this monograph I try to connect materials of earlier contributions and synthesize them into a comprehensive entity. One of the main purposes of a monograph, in my opinion, is to fit together in a comprehensive way scattered contributions that provide fragmented information to the readers. The collection of such contributions should be presented in a unified way; continuity of thought and logical sequence of the presentation of ideas and methods are essential. The reader should be able to follow through without having to resort to other references, something that is unavoidable in the case of a research paper or even a review paper. Many of the solutions discussed in the literature address specific practical problems. In fact, in the process of collecting information, I discovered independent lines of investigations, dealing with the same physical problem, but inspired by different practical applications. For example, I found that two groups of investigators have been studying independently the response of a viscous layer to a harmonic external disturbance. One group is con cerned with mass transport and the transport of sediment over the bottom of the ocean, and the other is interested in the aerodynamics of lifting surfaces in harmonically changing environments.
