Book Description
The final instalment of the Last Dragonslayer Chronicles, demonstrating that with a small band of committed followers, a large tin of resolve and steely determination, almost anything can be achieved . . . Sixteen-year-old Jennifer Strange and her sidekick and fellow Orphan Tiger Prawns have been driven to the tip of the UnUnited Kingdoms - Cornwall - by the invasion of the Trolls. Their one defence is a six-foot-wide trench full of buttons, something which the Trolls find unaccountably terrifying (it's their clickiness). Worse than being eaten by Trolls is the prospect of the Mighty Shandar requisitioning the Quarkbeast and using him to achieve supreme power and domination - an ambition that has been four hundred years in the planning and which will ultimately leave the Earth a cold cinder, devoid of all life. Nothing has ever looked so bleak, but Jennifer, assisted by a renegade vegan Troll, a bunch of misfit sorcerers, the Princess (or is she now the ruler?) of the UnUnited (or are they now United?) Kingdoms, and Tiger, must find a way to vanquish the most powerful wizard the world has ever seen, and along the way discover the truth about her parents, herself, and what is in the locked glovebox of her VW Beetle . . .

Book Description
A thousand years have passed since The Fortunate were imprisoned beneath the cold and ice of Heldig Fengsel, and their freedom is now at hand. All that stands against them, and their gluttonous subjugation of the land, are the Lion of Forson, her Hammer, and her Spear—three heroes with near-supernatural abilities. Legend says they will come forth when the time is ripe and lead the people of the One Nation into battle against the Fortunate to ensure that never again will they be relegated to The Lesser. Even with these heroes, plans will need to be drawn and alliances strengthened, if they are to have any hope of prevailing against a force with far superior numbers and a wrath that has been building for a millennium. With assistance from their comrades in arms, twin brothers Edouard and Alton—presumed by many to be the prophesized Hammer and Spear— will have to survive mortal danger around every turn as they endeavor to prepare their people, and the Lion of Forson, for a battle that threatens to end their way of life and change the face of the One Nation forever. The Second Wave is the second book of the Hammer and Spear Trilogy, following The Last Line (2021), and like its predecessor, will keep readers teetering on the edge of their seats.

Book Description
For almost a thousand years, the One Nation has been at peace, wiser for the mistakes of The Fortunate—the oppressive, power-mad faction of humanity who once claimed that the earth could sustain us all, supporting their abuses and greed without crumbling, forever. They were wrong and the price was paid. In those perilous, long-ago days, the Lion of the Forson, born of The Lesser—those forced to serve The Fortunate in their selfish endeavours—drew upon deep powers to reshape the Earth, and the One Nation was created, on a foundation of freedom, responsibility, and a respect for the world and all living things. The Fortunate were trapped beneath the cold and ice of Heldig Fengsel, a prison that prophecy warns will fall once a thousand years have passed. Now, with the release of the Fortunate fast approaching, the descendants of The Lesser anxiously await the return of the Lion and her Pride, which the prophecy says will occur when they are needed once more, as the last line of defence against forces of darkness that threaten to tip the world back into subjugation and destruction.

Book Description
Prelude Question: Could it be that the future is really our past, one linked to the other in an inseparable bond, traveling endlessly in circular patterns throughout time and space, repeating itself over and over, each time manifesting itself in a familiar but uniquely distinct manner? There is an old adage that says throughout life, you can count your true friends on the fingers of one hand. It’s not about who you pretend to be that forms the bond, a boastful show of wealth or good works, but rather who you really are that matters. In the end, there is only one true friend who willingly gave His life to save yours. Not much was asked in return. It was a gift, given by grace. Past or present, what you do with that gift it is up to you. It just may determine your future… “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” George Santayana circa 1905 approx. “To everything, there is a Season and a Time to every Purpose Under Heaven…” Ecclesiastes 3:1 KJV Preface An Obelisk unearthed by the Dwarven Army mystically projected a warning, revealed in a drifting vapor from within its solid granite walls. It was a warning originally carved in stone, written by the ancients in Sumerian text long before the time of the Troll Wars. An old Monk received a visit in the form of a heaven sent apparition. A glimmering image of a close friend, a spirit long passed, sent to convey a similar warning. Both carried the same message… Beware the Head of the Serpent! The Sword of Leahanna had become detached, no longer linked to the Pearl or any one person, sent to rest deep within the waters of Lake A’Lithander in the heart of the Elfin forest of I’Thillianne. For the Sword, it would be a time of healing. A new Pearl would be cultivated and nurtured. Its power soon to return. The diabolical plans of the Devil and his army of Demonic Monsters had been foiled and put asunder due to the combined efforts of the Roluk Hordes, Elfin Forces, three Wizards, the Sword of Leahanna and of course, by the very Hand of the Lord Himself. The Evil One had been sealed within the portal of the second heaven. The door had been slammed shut for a Time, Times and Half-a-Time. Only the Head of the Serpent remained. The driving force of Evil was now in chains. All seemed to be good… But Not So Fast! The seed of perdition had already been cast, set in place by a long dead Evil Wizard. Little-by-little it began to grow in power; taking the form of a vile and evil creature that came to be known as the Beast. Slowly this beast tightened its grip upon the inhabitants of the Realm, starting with Westshire and the lesser known provinces. Population control through debt and coercion would entice those unaware to do its bidding. None ensnared by its cruel monetary policies could buy, sell or prosper without its mark or the number of its name. In turn, it would use its ill-gotten gains to finance the ongoing war between good and evil. The Head of the Serpent began to take control. For it was said, Who is likened onto the Beast… Who will worship the number of his name? In Norsada to the North, Thargor was back in power with a new mission, signing a non-aggression pact and combining forces with Gog and the Trolls. Meanwhile, the Muzoule militia had been pouring in the Southern borders near the Hill Country, bankrolled by an evil cabal of a New World Order aligned with power-hungry criminal elements and hidden spies. Their aim was to over-run the territories of the Realm and enslave its inhabitants, setting-up its Throne of Evil near the Temple of I’Thillianne. If successful, the Dark Tower would once again become the new beacon of power. It would be up to the Allied powers to put an end to it. As a unified force, they would employ new weapons and new assault tactics; neither Kholta-Kahn, K’Leander, Jorax nor King Hagar and Queen Czarkov would make it easy for them.

Book Description
Why the internet troll problem is actually a culture problem: how online trolling fits comfortably within today’s media landscape. Internet trolls live to upset as many people as possible, using all the technical and psychological tools at their disposal. They gleefully whip the media into a frenzy over a fake teen drug crisis; they post offensive messages on Facebook memorial pages, traumatizing grief-stricken friends and family; they use unabashedly racist language and images. They take pleasure in ruining a complete stranger’s day and find amusement in their victim’s anguish. In short, trolling is the obstacle to a kinder, gentler Internet. To quote a famous Internet meme, trolling is why we can’t have nice things online. Or at least that’s what we have been led to believe. In this provocative book, Whitney Phillips argues that trolling, widely condemned as obscene and deviant, actually fits comfortably within the contemporary media landscape. Trolling may be obscene, but, Phillips argues, it isn’t all that deviant. Trolls’ actions are born of and fueled by culturally sanctioned impulses—which are just as damaging as the trolls’ most disruptive behaviors. Phillips describes the relationship between trolling and sensationalist corporate media—pointing out that for trolls, exploitation is a leisure activity; for media, it’s a business strategy. She shows how trolls, “the grimacing poster children for a socially networked world,” align with social media. And she documents how trolls, in addition to parroting media tropes, also offer a grotesque pantomime of dominant cultural tropes, including gendered notions of dominance and success and an ideology of entitlement. We don't just have a trolling problem, Phillips argues; we have a culture problem. This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things isn’t only about trolls; it's about a culture in which trolls thrive.
