Book Description
CE TRAVAIL A POUR OBJET L'ETUDE DE PROCEDES DE TRAITEMENT D'AIR CHARGE EN COMPOSES ORGANIQUES VOLATILS PAR ADSORPTION-DESORPTION SUR DES MATERIAUX RECENTS, LES TISSUS DE CARBONE ACTIVE. UNE CARACTERISATION PHYSIQUE DES TISSUS DE CARBONE ACTIVE MONTRE QUE CE SONT DES MATERIAUX ESSENTIELLEMENT MICROPOREUX DONT LES SURFACES SPECIFIQUES SONT ELEVEES. LE COMPORTEMENT ELECTRIQUE DE CES TISSUS EST COMPARABLE A CELUI DES CONDUCTEURS OHMIQUES CLASSIQUES. AINSI, LEUR CHAUFFAGE PAR EFFET JOULE DIRECT EST ENVISAGEABLE COMME MODE DE REGENERATION. LA VALEUR DE LA RESISTIVITE ELECTRIQUE DEPEND DES PARAMETRES D'ACTIVATION ET DE L'ORIENTATION DU TISSU. L'ECHAUFFEMENT DE CES MATERIAUX EST EN GENERAL TRES HOMOGENE, LA DISTRIBUTION DES TEMPERATURE OBSERVEE PAR CAMERA INFRAROUGE ETANT LIEE A L'HETEROGENEITE DU DEGRE D'ACTIVATION. DES DONNEES CINETIQUES ET D'EQUILIBRE SONT GENEREES EN REACTEUR DISCONTINU. LES RESULTATS MONTRENT QUE LES VITESSES DE TRANSFERT GAZ-SOLIDE SONT TRES ELEVEES, ET LES CAPACITES D'ADSORPTION IMPORTANTES. LA FAISABILITE DES CYCLES ADSORPTION-DESORPTION POUR DES TEMPERATURES DE REGENERATION PEU ELEVEES EST DEMONTREE. LA PRESENTATION SOUS FORME DE TISSU PERMET DE CONCEVOIR DES ADSORBEURS ORIGINAUX. AINSI DES MODULES CYLINDRIQUES PLISSES SONT DIMENSIONNES ET UTILISES DANS UNE UNITE PILOTE. L'AERODYNAMIQUE DE CES SYSTEMES EST ETUDIEE PAR LA MESURE DES PERTES DE CHARGE. UN OUTIL DE SIMULATION NUMERIQUE DE L'ECOULEMENT AU TRAVERS DE TELS SYSTEMES EST UTILISE POUR PREDIRE LES PERTES DE CHARGE DANS DES CONFIGURATIONS COMPLEXES ET PERMET D'ACCEDER AU CHAMP DES PRESSIONS STATIQUES ET DES VITESSES. LES BONNES PERFORMANCES EN ADSORPTION ET EN DESORPTION DE CES REACTEURS SONT ETUDIEES EN FONCTION DES CONDITIONS OPERATOIRES. QUELQUES EXEMPLES D'UTILISATION DES TISSUS DE CARBONE ACTIVE DANS DES APPLICATIONS INDUSTRIELLES DE TRAITEMENT D'AIR SONT PRESENTEES, ET MONTRENT LA FAISABILITE DU DEVELOPPEMENT INDUSTRIEL DE TELS PROCEDES.

Book Description
The best papers from the three-day conference on Safe Drinking Water from Source to Tap June 2009 in Maastricht are published in this book covering the themes of challenges of the water sector and adaptive strategies, treatment, distribution, risk assessment and risk management, sensors and monitoring, small scale systems, simulation, alternative water supply & sources, consumer involvement, and future drinking water. Worldwide, the water supply sector is facing tremendous challenges. Every new emerging contaminants and pathogens and aging infrastructures that are vulnerable for deliberate contamination pose a threat to the quality of water supplies. Shortage of good quality and readily treatable resources is increasing due to global warming, urbanisation and pollution from agriculture and industry. Regulators and consumers are becoming more demanding. Techneau - the largest European project on drinking water - addresses these challenges by developing adaptive supply system options and new and improved treatment and monitoring technologies. Future system options to be studied are flexible, small scale and multi-source supplies, utilising non conventional resources like brackish ground water, treated wastewater and urban groundwater.

Book Description
Maintaining the microbial quality in distribution systems and connected installations remains a challenge for the water supply companies all over the world, despite many years of research. This book identifies the main concerns and knowledge gaps related to regrowth and stimulates cooperation in future research. Microbial Growth in Drinking Water Supplies provides an overview of the regrowth issue in different countries and the water quality problems related to regrowth. The book assesses the causes of regrowth in drinking water and the prevention of regrowth by water treatment and distribution. Book Description
This book covers the most recent scientific and technological developments (state-of-the-art) in the field of chemical oxidation processes applicable for the efficient treatment of biologically-difficult-to-degrade, toxic and/or recalcitrant effluents originating from different manufacturing processes. It is a comprehensive review of process and pollution profiles as well as conventional, advanced and emerging treatment processes & technologies developed for the most relevant and pollution (wet processing)-intensive industrial sectors. It addresses chemical/photochemical oxidative treatment processes, case-specific treatability problems of major industrial sectors, emerging (novel) as well as pilot/full-scale applications, process integration, treatment system design & sizing criteria (figure-of-merits), cost evaluation and success stories in the application of chemical oxidative treatment processes. Chemical Oxidation Applications for Industrial Wastewaters is an essential reference for lecturers, researchers, industrial and environmental engineers and practitioners working in the field of environmental science and engineering. Book Description
The past 30 years have seen the emergence of a growing desire worldwide that positive actions be taken to restore and protect the environment from the degrading effects of all forms of pollution – air, water, soil, and noise. Since pollution is a direct or indirect consequence of waste, the seemingly idealistic demand for “zero discharge” can be construed as an unreal- tic demand for zero waste. However, as long as waste continues to exist, we can only attempt to abate the subsequent pollution by converting it to a less noxious form. Three major questions usually arise when a particular type of pollution has been identi?ed: (1) How serious is the pollution? (2) Is the technology to abate it available? and (3) Do the costs of abatement justify the degree of abatement achieved? This book is one of the volumes of the Handbook of Environmental Engineering series. The principal intention of this series is to help readers formulate answers to the last two questions above. The traditional approach of applying tried-and-true solutions to speci?c pollution p- blems has been a major contributing factor to the success of environmental engineering and has accounted in large measure for the establishment of a “methodology of pollution control. ” However, the realization of the ever-increasing complexity and interrelated nature of current environmental problems renders it imperative that intelligent planning of pollution abatement systems be undertaken.
