Book Description
The problem of traction is most important from the individual farmer's point of view. For ordinary work under normal conditions a pneumatic wheel tractor can do satisfactory work as far as handling pulled equipment is concerned. However, there are times, e.g. when ploughing during the drier season of the year, when every tractor owner finds the rear wheels slip exceedlingly and has to reduce the load or wait until soil moisture conditions improve sufficiently to regain efficient traction. In certain areas farmers have been forced to buy crawler tractors at considerably greater cost than ordinary wheel tractors in order to accomplish all the jobs they wanted to get done.

Book Description
Food historian Cynthia Clampitt pens the epic story of what happened when Mesoamerican farmers bred a nondescript grass into a staff of life so prolific, so protean, that it represents nothing less than one of humankind's greatest achievements. Blending history with expert reportage, she traces the disparate threads that have woven corn into the fabric of our diet, politics, economy, science, and cuisine. At the same time she explores its future as a source of energy and the foundation of seemingly limitless green technologies. The result is a bourbon-to-biofuels portrait of the astonishing plant that sustains the world.
