Book Description
L. Frank Baum got it all wrong. Well, that's the way Toto saw it. Toto asserts that the inconsistencies between L. Frank Baum's version and how the adventures truly unfolded are due in part to Baum's inability to understand Toto's Cairn terrier accent. Toto has now decided to set the record straight. Toto asserts that the inconsistencies between L. Frank Baum's version and how the adventures truly unfolded are due in part to Baum's inability to understand Toto's Cairn terrier accent. This failure prompted Baum to focus primarily on Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Lion, overlooking Toto's contributions. Toto, now in his declining years, has decided to set the record straight and show how he, with courage, foresight, and determination, guided his companions unscathed through one perilous mishap after another. For without Toto's guidance, his companions could still be wandering aimlessly through the Land of Oz. Toto's Adventures with Dorothy, as told by Toto, is the true tail of their exploits in the Land of Oz. Although Toto can articulate his thoughts and observations clearly, it is when he attempts to verbalize them to his companions that he finds himself hampered by his thick canine accent. In other words, he barks. Toto nonetheless offers his advice whenever they find themselves in one perilous mishap after another. For without Toto's courage, foresight, and determination, as far as he is concerned, they could all still be wandering futilely through the Land of Oz. Or worse, slain by any of the evil threats they encounter. When told that the Wizard of Oz never appears in his true form, and presuming that Wizards are mostly likely courageous, brilliant, generous to a fault, and the best companion one could ever wish for, Toto concluded that the Wizard's true form is most certainly a breed of dog. A, perhaps? Having ascertained this knowledge by deduction, Toto was eager to meet snout to snout what he envisioned as the Great Wizard Dog!

Book Description
The roots of coincidence and conspiracy in American politics, crime, and culture are investigated in this analysis that exposes new connections between religion, political conspiracy, terrorism, and occultism. Readers are provided with strange parallels between supernatural forces such as shaminism, ritual magic, and cult practices, and contemporary interrogation techniques such as those used by the CIA under the general rubric of MK-ULTRA. Not a work of speculative history, this exposé is founded on primary source material and historical documents. Fascinating details on Nixon and the "Dark Tower," the Assassin cult and more recent Islamic terrorism, and the bizarre themes that run through American history from its discovery by Columbus to the political assassinations of the 1960s are revealed.

Book Description
Practitioners across many counselling approaches acknowledge that the therapeutic relationship is central to therapy and its outcomes. This book argues that the therapeutic relationship cannot be reduced to particular words or therapeutic skills, but is a relationship encounter that promotes dialogue, contact and process. In each chapter, experts in different fields interpret the therapeutic relationship through the lens of their own modality, offering: Summaries of the key theoretical and research bases Example case studies of therapeutic interventions that illuminate key relational components of the approach and the development and management of the therapeutic relationship Study of the limitations, challenges and complexities of maintaining a therapeutic relationship Exploration of new developments in working with clients - capturing work that the authors and other colleagues have been involved in developing in that area The Therapeutic Relationship Handbook is a broad ranging guide for students as well as both new and experienced practitioners. Divine Charura is a Senior Lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Leeds Metropolitan University, UK. He is an Adult Psychotherapist who works in the NHS, voluntary sector and in private practice, as well as an independent trainer, supervisor and coach. Stephen Paul is a client-centred psychotherapist, practising in the areas of therapy, supervision and coaching. He retired as Director of The Centre for Psychological Therapies at Leeds Metropolitan University, UK in 2012 after 20 years of service. The editors and authors of this book have produced a volume of theory and practice that has tremendous breadth and scope and that is a thorough analysis of the many facets of the therapeutic relationship. Rich in knowledge and practical applications, the authors demonstrate not only an understanding of their field, but also an ability to communicate this with vignettes and examples that are relevant and enable understanding for both students and practitioners alike. The limitations and challenges of each approach are recognised and a detailed list of further references is given for the reader to explore if desired. I highly recommend this book for both students and practitioners and congratulate the editors and authors on their work. I will certainly use it in our Counselling Education Programs for both Bachelor and Master of Counselling students. Book Description
From one of the great novelists of our day, a vital, brilliant new book of essays, speeches and articles essential for our times. Step Across This Line showcases the other side of one of fiction’s most astonishing conjurors. On display is Salman Rushdie’s incisive, thoughtful and generous mind, in prose that is as entertaining as it is topical. The world is here, captured in pieces on a dazzling array of subjects: from New York’s Amadou Diallo case to the Wizard of Oz, from U2 to fifty years of Indian writing, from a tribute to Angela Carter to the struggle to film Midnight’s Children. The title essay was originally delivered at Yale as the 2002 Tanner lecture on human values, and examines the changing meaning of frontiers in the modern world -- moral and metaphorical frontiers as well as physical ones. The collection chronicles Rushdie’s intellectual journeys, but it is also an intimate invitation into his life: he explores his relationship to India through a moving diary of his first visit there in over a decade, “A Dream of Glorious Return.” Step Across This Line also includes “Messages From the Plague Years,” a historic set of letters, articles and reflections on life under the fatwa. Gathered together for the first time, this is Rushdie’s humane, intelligent and angry response to a grotesque threat, aimed not just at him but at free expression itself. Step Across This Line, Salman Rushdie’s first collection of non-fiction in a decade, has the same energy, imagination and erudition as his astounding novels -- along with some very strong opinions.
