Book Description
From 1776, when Citizen Tom Paine declared, "The birthday of a new world is at hand," America was unique in world history. A nation suffused with the spirit of explorers, constantly replenished by immigrants, and informed by a continual influx of foreign ideas, it was the world's first truly cosmopolitan civilization. In Beyond the Revolution, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian William H. Goetzmann tells the story of America's greatest thinkers and creators, from Paine and Jefferson to Melville and William James, showing how they built upon and battled one another's ideas in the critical years between 1776 and 1900. An unprecedented work of intellectual history by a master historian, this book will be essential reading for anyone interested in the origins of our national culture.

Book Description
This book is about the major organizational challenges related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), and ways for visionary leaders to begin addressing them now by rethinking traditional views of change, learning, and leadership. This is not another book about the gloom and doom associated with predicted job losses due to robots and artificial intelligence (AI). Instead, this is a solutions-based book that provides a new way of thinking about the organization, called Story Thinking. The first industrial revolution was based on steam and mechanical production. The second revolution was based on electricity and assembly lines. The third revolution was based on computing and online workflow. All three of these technological advancements completely changed the underlying approaches towards business. But the next revolution will be even more profound. The fourth revolution is primarily based on intelligence and digital connectivity. This will move us beyond building a workforce around the technology-the workforce will also be competing with the technology. Successful organizations will need to do more than just adopt smarter tools-they will need to adopt smarter ways of thinking beyond current memorized prescriptive change models.Within the second industrial revolution, we became accustomed to saying that everything happens within a process-and the framework of "process" became our mental model of work. Now, in the fourth industrial revolution, we will need to understand that the framework of "story" must become our mental model of work. Storytelling is based on a sensemaking pattern for how we should talk-but Story Thinking is based on this sensemaking pattern for how we should work.

Book Description
This book aims to redefine the relationship between film and revolution. Starting with Hannah Arendt’s thoughts on the American and French Revolution, it argues that, from a theoretical perspective, revolutions can be understood as describing a relationship between time and movement and that ultimately the spectators and not the actors in a revolution decide its outcome. Focusing on the concepts of ‘time,’ ‘movement,’ and ‘spectators,’ this study develops an understanding of film not as a medium of agitation but as a way of thinking that relates to the idea of historicity that opened up with the American and French Revolution, a way of thinking that can expand our very notion of revolution. The book explores this expansion through an analysis of three audiovisual stagings of revolution: Abel Gance’s epic on the French Revolution Napoléon, Warren Beatty’s essay on the Russian Revolution Reds, and the miniseries John Adams about the American Revolution. The author thereby offers a fresh take on the questions of revolution and historicity from the perspective of film studies.
