Notes on Lectures by Rush
Author: Benjamin Rush
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 338
Book Description
Manuscript lecture notes recorded by Isaac Pierson in a course given by Benjamin Rush. "Pathology" extends from p. 1-224; "Therapeutics" occupies the remainder of the volume, with a three-page index to both sections at the end. From Rush's syllabus to his course on Institutes and practice of medicine, it appears that these notes cover only part of the course, which consisted of physiology, pathology, therapeutics, and practice. The text appears to have been compared with, or copied from, preliminary notes. The text reads fluently and there are very few spelling errors. in the record. Many topics are covered under the general heading of pathology; a number of authors and historical events are cited (the latest date mentioned in the text is 1798). The therapeutics topics include popular 18th century patent medicines such as Godfrey's Cordial and Turlington's Balsam, altitude sickness in reference to Humboldt, Afro-Americans, puberty, health related to employment, mania etc.
