Book Description
A visual feast on 'the extravagance of the bohemian', the homes in this collection are a testament to personal style that readers will find inspiring and influential. Since the 1970s, Oberto Gili has been one of the most prolific lenses in the world of editorial photography, his lush images of fashion and interiors gracing the pages of House & Garden, Town & Country, and Vogue. This collection of his signature interior photography spans this significant career. Gili's passion for the grand, bold, and quirky granted him access to the inner sanctums of both high society and the bohemian demimonde. The selection includes numerous homes of French and Italian nobility, lords of the European and American creative class, and the photographer's own remarkable Piedmont farmhouse. This volume of Gili's best work is a sumptuous and voyeuristic study of his most arresting interiors and emphasizes the adventurous nature of both the homes and their occupants. These homes exude in turns grandeur, whimsy, and tranquility, each interior imbued with the unique style of its occupants. The book features more than 40 homes throughout the world--from New York penthouses and artist lofts to seventeenth-century Italian villas and country homes in Morocco--each personally selected by Gili and shown in full. Each house is accompanied by a short descriptive text by Susanna Salk. Sprinkled throughout the book are 10 short texts by selected homeowners (Isabella Rossellini, Mary Randolph Carter, Muriel Brandolini, Marella Caracciolo, Paul Fortune, and Beatrice Monti, among others) describing a personal history of the individual spaces.

Book Description
A lovingly photographed tour of internationally renowned writer Umberto Pasti's famous hillside garden in Morocco. Italian writer and horticulturist Umberto Pasti's passion for the wild flora of Tangier and its surrounding region led him to create his world-famous garden, Rohuna, where he has transplanted thousands of plants rescued from construction sites with the aid of men from the village. Planted between two small houses is the Garden of Consolation: a series of rooms and terraces with lush vegetation, some rendering homage to the paintings of Henri Rousseau, others inspired by invented characters. Surrounding the Garden of Consolation are the Wild Garden and a hillside devoted to the wild flowering bulbs of northern Morocco, where indigenous species of narcissus, iris, crocus, scilla, gladiolus, and others bloom. With its stunning vistas and verdant fields, Rohuna is a garden of incomparable beauty with the mission to preserve the botanical richness of the region. Captured here in detail by celebrated photographer Ngoc Minh Ngo, the poetic beauty of this special and unique place is lovingly rendered for all the world to see and share.

Book Description
In hard-hitting accounts of Auschwitz, Bosnia, Palestine, and Hiroshima’s Ground Zero, comics display a stunning capacity to bear witness to trauma. Investigating how hand-drawn comics has come of age as a serious medium for engaging history, Disaster Drawn explores the ways graphic narratives by diverse artists, including Jacques Callot, Francisco Goya, Keiji Nakazawa, Art Spiegelman, and Joe Sacco, document the disasters of war. Hillary L. Chute traces how comics inherited graphic print traditions and innovations from the seventeenth century and later, pointing out that at every turn new forms of visual-verbal representation have arisen in response to the turmoil of war. Modern nonfiction comics emerged from the shattering experience of World War II, developing in the 1970s with Art Spiegelman’s first “Maus” story about his immigrant family’s survival of Nazi death camps and with Hiroshima survivor Keiji Nakazawa’s inaugural work of “atomic bomb manga,” the comic book Ore Wa Mita (“I Saw It”)—a title that alludes to Goya’s famous Disasters of War etchings. Chute explains how the form of comics—its collection of frames—lends itself to historical narrative. By interlacing multiple temporalities over the space of the page or panel, comics can place pressure on conventional notions of causality. Aggregating and accumulating frames of information, comics calls attention to itself as evidence. Disaster Drawn demonstrates why, even in the era of photography and film, people understand hand-drawn images to be among the most powerful forms of historical witness.

Book Description
Exuberant interior designer Muriel Brandolini presents the broad scope of her whimsical style, combining the contemporary with classic elegance. Muriel Brandolini’s exceptional taste and unconventional aesthetic have made her a celebrated international interior designer. Her multicultural background-Vietnam, the Caribbean, and France-has influenced her unusual style, which is a mix of exoticism, elegance, and fantasy. Her interiors are marked by a dynamic color sense, bold textures and patterns, and an unusual combination of antique and contemporary furnishings. Beautifully photographed, this look into Brandolini’s sophisticated world includes profiles of select residences-ranging from a seductive apartment marked by a dramatic draped Marie Antoinette-style bed and an entryway embellished with beaded song lyrics, to an airy beach house with a stairwell of hanging embroidered lanterns. Considered a design laboratory, her legendary townhouse is shown in several iterations. Included are such signature details as fabric walls, slipper chairs covered in hand-pieced antique fabrics, found treasures, and Asian-style split bamboo window shades. This avant-garde style setter shows that with an unfettered imagination one can create an alluring home environment.
