Book Description
This fully annotated volume collects three of Baum's fourteen Oz novels in which he developed his utopian vision and which garnered an immense and loyal following. The Wizard of Oz (1900) introduces Dorothy, who arrives from Kansas and meets the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, the Cowardly Lion, and a host of other characters. The Emerald City of Oz (1910) finds Dorothy, Aunt Em, and Uncle Henry coming to Oz just as the wicked Nome King is plotting to conquer its people. In Baum's final novel, Glinda of Oz (1920), Dorothy and Princess Ozma try to prevent a battle between the Skeezers and the Flatheads. Tapping into a deeply rooted desire in himself and his loyal readers to live in a peaceful country which values the sharing of talents and gifts, Baum's imaginative creation, like all great utopian literature, holds out the possibility for change. Also included is a selection of the original illustrations by W. W. Denslow and John R. Neill. For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.

Book Description
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a children's novel written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by W. W. Denslow. Originally published by the George M. Hill Company in Chicago on May 17, 1900, it has since been reprinted numerous times, most often under the name The Wizard of Oz, which is the name of both the popular 1902 Broadway musical and the well-known 1939 film adaptation. The story chronicles the adventures of a young girl named Dorothy Gale in the Land of Oz, after being swept away from her Kansas farm home in a cyclone.[nb 1] The novel is one of the best-known stories in American popular culture and has been widely translated. Its initial success, and the success of the 1902 Broadway musical which Baum adapted from his original story, led to Baum's writing thirteen more Oz books. The original book has been in the public domain in the US since 1956. Baum dedicated the book "to my good friend & comrade, My Wife," Maud Gage Baum. In January 1901, George M. Hill Company, the publisher, completed printing the first edition, which totaled 10,000 copies.

Book Description
"The road to the City of Emeralds is paved with yellow brick," said the Witch, "so you cannot miss it. When you get to Oz do not be afraid of him, but tell your story and ask him to help you."One of the best-known stories of all time, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz— often shortened to The Wizard of Oz— is a timeless classic. Written as a children's book, it has captured the hearts and minds of generations and can be read and enjoyed at any age. The story chronicles the adventures of a young girl named Dorothy Gale in the Land of Oz, after being swept away from her Kansas farm home in a storm. There she makes her way to the Emerald City, along the way famously meeting the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodsman, and Cowardly Lion, all desperate to meet the infamous Wizard who they believe has the power to grant their most desired wishes. All Dorothy wants is to go home— but there are no ruby slippers here— they were an embellishment added to the 1939 MGM movie. This story has been translated widely and its huge success led to Baum writing a further 13 books based in the Land of Oz.

Book Description
Differentiated book- It has a historical context with research of the timeDragged by a cyclone from the plains of Kansas to the land of Oz, Dorothy and her puppy, Toto, must find their way back home. To return home, Dorothy must travel to the Emerald City with her new group of friends - the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion - and put her destiny in the hands of a great and terrible magician. But an evil enemy gets in his way.Although due to circumstances that I mentioned in my review of "Pride and Prejudice" I am not very friendly with the classics, after reading "Dorothy must die" I was curious to read the original story of Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz. And not even as a child I came to live that story. I knew him, of course, but it's not like others that I can feel like mine in some way. After finding it free on Amazon for Kindle, I didn't turn it over and started reading. One of the many good things about reading books in Kindle format is that, in addition to the translator that carries the reader, you can adjust the "difficulty" of reading, according to which the Kindle shows you more or less word translations. The more explanations we ask, the easier the reading will be.So, if you are not used to reading in English, but you know the language, it will only be a matter of advancing a few chapters, from which you will have acquired a good reading rhythm. If, on the contrary, your English vocabulary is somewhat concise, it will cost you a little more, especially at the beginning, but the reader offers facilities to reduce that problem.Let's go back to the story. This book, what is classically known as Dorothy's story, is only the first volume of a series of 14 books, so if you want more, don't worry. This book tells us Dorothy's already known story. How he got to Oz, how he killed one of the evil witches of those lands when his house fell on him, how he set off for Emerald City so that the wizard of Oz sent her back. How he met his three friends, each looking for a missing piece. In terms of summary, this book has little mystery. What has been curious to me is the fact that this book, originally a children's book, could perfectly be used in institutes as a book of literature. Each character in the book is aware of its imperfection and seeks to ask the magician for help to fix it. Each of them, during the course of the story, interacts with other characters, learn from each other. For example, the Scarecrow. When he and Dorothy meet, the Scarecrow tells us, Dorothy and us, which led him to look for a brain. At first he was doing well in his work, but one day the crows realized that he was not a man, he had no brain, and was simply made of straw, so they began to attack the crops ignoring him. Therefore, to feel like a real person, the Scarecrow wants a brain."Brains are the only things worth having in this world, no matter wether one is a crow or a man." "A brain is the only thing worth having in this world, be it a raven or a man."What the Scarecrow does not realize is that thanks to him they leave many troubles, that he is the most mentally agile at various times in history. Similarly, the Tin Man swears to himself never to be cruel or dishonest because he has no heart: act like a person with a good heart to make up for what he does not have, being able to identify those good feelings. This and other reflections have left me thinking more than once, and I would have liked to discuss aspects of this story with my classmates in High School, instead of studying the historical context of a work. I leave this story with a "Good" and I hope to read some continuation in the future.
