Book Description
Excerpt from The Unitarian Banner and Other Sermons The question is often asked, What do you and your Church believe? I have tried in this little book to answer the question plainly and definitely, and at the same time to indicate the general and characteristic thought of Unitarians in regard to the divine Character and government, the spirit and work of our Saviour, and upon the great themes of life, duty, and immortality. I have taken the liberty of inserting ten hymns, written by Unitarian and other liberal Christians. Some of them are as exquisite songs as the spirit of devotion ever ih spired, so fragrant with the fine aroma of revering love that, like Mary's spikenard in the home at Bethany, they have filled the house with the odor of the ointment. Book Description
Excerpt from Our Unitarian Gospel Through the lack of having made themselves familiar with the matter, there is a common and, I think, a widespread impression among people generally that Unitarianism is a new-fangled notion, a modern fad, a belief held only by a few, who are one side of the main currents of religious life and advance. Even if it were new, even if it were confined to the modern world, this would not necessarily be anything against it. The Copernican theory of the universe is new, is modern. So are most of the great discoveries that characterize and glorify the present age. But in the case of Unitarianism this cannot be said. It is not new: it is very old. And, before I come to discuss and outline a few of its great principles, it seems to me well that we should get in our minds a background of historic thought, that we may see a little what are the sources and origins of this Unitarianism, and may understand why it is that there is a new and modern birth of it in the modern world. All races start very far away from any Monotheistic or Unitarian belief. The Hebrews are no exception to that rule. The early part of the Bible shows very plain traces of the fact that the Jews were polytheists and nature-worshippers. Book Description
Excerpt from The Unitarians The position of the Unitarian Church in America is, from the nature of the case, wholly different from that of any other communion. For the Unitarian Church brings together people who have agreed that they will not enforce any formal statement of religion. They do not understand that any intellectual formula is necessary to bring about that larger life which the Saviour called "the coming of the Kingdom of God." They trust implicitly and absolutely in that presence with us to-day of God himself, which all Christian communions assert in words. It follows that the greater part of the Unitarians of the country are connected with churches not in the Unitarian organization. They are comparatively indifferent as to what the minister says in his sermon, or as to what the creed of the particular organization affects. The business of the Unitarian Church is to unite all children of God for the bringing in of His Kingdom. In this business they do not speak even of the saving of separate souls as the first necessity, though of course it follows immediately on loyal effort for the common good. As persons of profound Unitarian convictions might be found in almost every religious assembly in America, it is impossible to make any statistical statement of their power in the religious life of America. Book Description
In an era when the cult of personality has overtaken the task of preaching, Charles W. Fuller offers an engaging query into the necessary boundaries between the person of the preacher and the message preached. By thoroughly evaluating Phillips Brooks's classic "truth through personality" definition of preaching, Fuller brings to light a substantial error that remains in contemporary homiletics: namely, the tenuous correlation between Christ's incarnation and Christian preaching. Ultimately, Fuller asserts a sound evangelical framework for preaching on revelational, ontological, rhetorical, and teleological grounds. Preachers who desire to construct pulpit practice upon a robust evangelical foundation will benefit from Fuller's contribution.

Book Description
The early Christian Church was a chaos of contending beliefs. In Lost Christianities, Bart D. Ehrman offers a fascinating look at these early forms of Christianity and shows how they came to be suppressed, reformed, or forgotten. All of these groups insisted that they upheld the teachings of Jesus and his apostles, and they all possessed writings that bore out their claims, books reputedly produced by Jesus' own followers. Scrupulously researched and lucidly written, Lost Christianities is an eye-opening account of politics, power, and the clash of ideas among Christians in the decades before one group came to see its views prevail.
