Counsels to Writers and Editors
Author: Ellen G. White
Publisher: Review and Herald Pub Assoc
ISBN: 9780828011761
Category : Journalism
Languages : en
Pages : 200
Book Description
Seventh-day Adventist editors from all parts of the world met in Washington, D.C., in August, 1939, to participate in a general editorial council, the first to be held. As a source of inspiration and guidance to this group, the leaders of the denomination arranged to have placed in their hands the E.G. White instruction which had been directed to our writers and editors through the years, drawn from both published sources and manuscripts, in the form of a little paper-bound work entitled Counsels to Editors. Five hundred copies of this little work were printed, and the stock was soon exhausted. It seems appropriate to make this volume of counsels generally available through a new edition, which is now issued as a permanent publication. - The Object of Our Publications. Linguistics & Biblical Exegesis
Author: Douglas Mangum
Publisher: Lexham Press
ISBN: 1577997050
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 201
Book Description
We rarely think about the way languages work because communicating in our native tongue comes so naturally to us. The Bible was written in ancient Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek—languages no modern reader can claim to have a native understanding of. A better understanding of how language works should help us understand the Bible better as we seek to discern the original intent and meaning of each biblical author. In this book, you will get a basic introduction to the field of linguistics—its history, its key concepts, its major schools of thought, and how its insights can shed light on various problems in biblical Hebrew and Greek. Numerous examples illustrate linguistic concepts, and technical terminology is clearly defined. Learn how the study of language can enhance your Bible study.
