Modern cultural methods are presented in a companion volume, "Strawberry-Growing," and all of the more than 1800 North American varieties are described in Technical Bulletin 11, Virginia Agricultural Experiment Station, Blacksburg, Virginia, "North American Varieties of the Strawberry." The present volume deals mainly with the origin and history of the North American type - one of the most interesting chapters in our pomology.
