THE VOYAGE THE voyage having now actually begun, we must needs turn to the Private Journal, as it is from this source chiefly that our information is derived. We find this inscription on the cover of the volume: "Journal on board 'Cleopatra's Barge ' on a Voyage of Amusement and Travels to the Western Islands and the Mediterranean in the year 1817." Journal on board the Cleopatra s Barge, 1817 "On Sunday, March 30th, at 9 o'clock a.m., we were underweigh, having started from the end of India Wharf, in the presence of a great concourse of spectators, who gave us three hearty cheers, on our departure. At 3 o'clock p.m. Meridian the lights on Thatchers Island bore North distant seven miles.
