Book Description
Excerpt from The Story of Bacon's Rebellion After the thrilling scenes through which the Colony of Virginia passed during its earliest days, the most portentous, the most dramatic, the most picturesque event of its seventeenth century history was the insurrection known as "Bacon's Rebellion." All writers upon the history of Virginia refer to it, and a few have treated it at some length, but it is only in quite late years that facts unearthed in the English public records have enabled students to reach a proper understanding of the causes and the results of this famous uprising, and given them accurate and detailed information concerning it. If his little volume is read, he will be amply repaid if approved, he will be richly rewarded. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from White Aprons: A Romance of Bacon's Rebellion The hero and heroine of this story are not to be too closely identified with the well-known families whose names they bear, as their connection was remote, and through branches which can be traced, if at all, only by some delver in forgotten records. The obscurity which veils the entire history of the great struggle between tyranny and popular rights in Virginia a hundred years before the Revolution, makes accuracy impossible for the most painstaking historian; but the mist of uncertainly which hangs about these events lends them only an added charm in the eyes of the romancer whose field of research lies in the realm of "might have been." Excerpt from The History of Bacon's and Ingram's Rebellion in Virginia, in 1675 and 1676 At last it was concluded, as a good expedient for to put the coun trey in to som degree of safety, for to plant Forts upon the Fronteres, thinkeing there by to put a stop unto the Indians excurssions: which after the expence of a grate deale of time and charge, being finished, came short of the designed ends. For the Indians quickly found out where about these Mouse traps were sett, and for what purpose, and so resalued to keepe out of there danger; which they might easely ennough do, with out any detriment to there designes. For though here by they were compeld (tis pdsible) to goe a litle about, yet they never thought much of there labour, so long as they were not debar'd from doing of Mischeife; which was not in the power of these forts to prevent: For if'that the English did, at any time, know that there was more ways in to the wood then one, to kill Deare, the Indians found more then a thousand out of the wood, to kill Men, and not com neare the danger of the forts neather. NEW PRINT WITH PROFESSIONAL TYPE-SET IN CONTRAST TO SCANNED PRINTS OFFERED BY OTHERS A Century Too Soon: A Story Of Bacon's Rebellion This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!
