Electroweak Effects at High Energies
Author: Harvey B. Newman
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461324513
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 861
Book Description
The first Europhysics Study Conference on Electroweak Effects at High Energies was held at the "Ettore Majorana" Centre for Scientific Culture in Erice, Sicily from February 1 -12, 1983. The conference was attended by 61 physicists from 11 countries. The conference was sponsored by the European Physical Society, the Italian Ministry of Public Education, the Italian Ministry of Technological Research, the Sicilian Regional Government and the California Institute of Technology. CONFERENCE FORMAT The Study Conference followed a new intensive format in which the state of our knowledge of the electroweak interaction, and the relation of the electroweak sector to Grand Unified and Superunified Theories was reviewed in some depth. During the two week conference, 54 experimental and theoretical talks were presented, and four evening discussion sessions were held. The Erice surroundings, the wide-ranging conference program, and the fact that nearly all of the participants were directly involved in recent major experimental or theoretical developments, led to animated and very friendly discussions. Participants had the rare opportunity to view most of the major trends in high energy physics in a short interval of time, and to discuss and contemplate the trends in the uniquely peaceful yet stimulating atmosphere which is an Erice tradition.

Heavy Flavours and High-Energy Collisions in the 1–100 TeV Range
Author: A. Ali
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468499815
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 626
Book Description
The present volume is based on the proceedings of the 6th and 7th INFN ELOISATRON project workshops, held at the Centro di Cultura Scientifica "Et tore Majorana" CCSEM, Erice-Trapani, Sicily, Italy, in the period June 10-27, 1988. The topics of the two workshops were, respectively: - Heavy Flavours: Status and Perspectives, and - Novel Features of High Energy Collisions in 1-100 TeV Region. They were attended by sixty-three physicists. The two workshops were followed by a meeting of the INFN ELOISATRON working group, also held at the CCSEM in the period October 7-15, 1988 in which twenty-five physicists participated. Since there was quite a bit of overlap among speakers, participants and the topics covered at the three meetings, we have decided to issue ajoint proceeding, with the first part entitled: Heavy Flavour Physics, and the second: High Energy Physics with 1-100 Te V Proton Beams. Some of the reports included in this volume have been contributed by the INFN ELOISATRON working group members. The first. part of these proceedings deals mostly with the presentation and inter pretation of results in t.he so-called fiavour physics sector. New results, which have become available in the last three years from experiments involving kaons, charmed and beauty hadrons, and searches for the still missing top quark at the present and fothcoming colliders are topics of major interest. here. The contributions in this part are organized in three categories: Experimental Results, Theoretical Interpretation, and Future Directions.

Field Theory in Elementary Particles
Author: Arnold Perlmutter
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461593433
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 459
Book Description
We respectfully submit these proceedings of the 1982 Orbis Scientiae for your reading enjoyment. As always, the success of the conference was due to the hard work and wisdom of the moderators and dissertators. This year, in addition to the excellent overview of QCD and GUT, and the customary reports of the latest progress in theoretical and experimental particle physics, there have been discussions of new developments in astrophysics and especially of field theory and composite models. We wish also to note here that the 1981 Orbis paper by Stephen S. Pinsky on "Death of Fractional Topological Charge" was actually co-authored by William F. Palmer of Ohio State University, whose name was inadvertently omitted from the authorship, due to a series of misunderstandings. As in the past, this Orbis Scientiae 1982 was supported on a small scale by the Department of Energy, and this year as well by the National Science Foundation, on the same scale. We would like to thank Mrs. Helga S. Billings for her excellent typing for the n-th time, where n is a large number. This series of proceedings is also enhanced by Linda Scott's editorial help which includes improvements in the presentation of some of the papers.

Fundamental Interactions in Low-Energy Systems
Author: P. Dalpiaz
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1468449672
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 490
Book Description
The fourth course of the International School of Physics of Exotic Atoms took place at the "Ettore Majorana" Center for Scien tific Culture, Erice, from March 31 to April 6, 1984. As tradition, exotic atoms have been a tool for studying elec tromagnetic, weak and strong interactions at low energies. We felt it appropriate to have a full course devoted to a discussion of the information to be gained on the fundamental interactions from the study of low energy systems. In this kind of physics, which is characterized experimentally by very intense particle sources and very sensitive apparatuses, one can search for rare events and can perform precise measurements. Sensitive tests of the predictions of current theories of electro weak and strong interactions can thus be achieved. The course was attended by 54 participants from 23 institutes in 9 countries. The morning lectures reviewed the achievements of the field in the last few years and the afternoon seminars dealt with new results and projects.
