Book Description
Rise Up From the Ashes Lia is no longer the frail mortal she once was. Her newfound strength, however, came at a devastating price—Arin’s life... or so she believes. Still grappling with Roland's treachery, Lia discovers she is pregnant, destined to bear the first of a new generation endowed with superhuman healing abilities. Meanwhile, Roland leads his armies on a relentless campaign across the Borderlands, defeating all before him and igniting fears within the Unity of a rising Resistance. Returning after months on the march to the blessing of Lia’s pregnancy, he attempts to make peace with his wife, spurring a tentative reconciliation between them. Hidden in the shadows, though, a mysterious prisoner grows stronger. Arin’s miraculous survival from a gunshot to the brain is a riddle only Harris can unravel, as the rest of the world believes Arin to be dead. Harris attempts to manipulate his hostage by revealing Lia’s supposed loyalty to Roland. Bereft of hope for the woman he loves, Arin’s only answer is a daring escape into the wilderness of the Unclaimed Territories. When an enemy from Roland’s past strikes at the very heart of Cambria, the world teeters on the brink of war. Caught in this storm of conflict, Lia and Arin’s paths are destined to cross again. Will they meet as allies or enemies?

Book Description
Landscape Architecture Regenerative Design for Sustainable Development Winner, 1994 MeritAward for Communications, American Society of LandscapeArchitects "Regenerative Design for Sustainable Development is nothing lessthan a user's manual for planet Earth that integrates theprinciples of ecological design with practical realities betterthan anything I've read. John Lyle has written the best book nowavailable on the theory and practice of sustainability . . .essential reading for natural resource professionals, architects, planners, educators, environmentalists, and the general public."--David W. Orr, Professor and Chair Environmental Studies Program,Oberlin College. "John Lyle has written a splendid book, Regenerative Design forSustainable Development. It is perfectly topical; it is committedto the unity of art and science, design and planning, man andnature. It is itself exemplary, and it is a repository of exemplaryadaptations. It has carried the environmental movement to a newthreshold of ecological planning and design. It should be widelyread and employed." --Ian L. McHarg, FASLA. "In these times of widespread urban stress and regional disruption, the cogent thoughts of John Tillman Lyle on sustainable cities areon target and highly constructive. They are must reading forplanning professionals and all concerned citizens." --John OrmsbeeSimonds, FASLA. "More designers need to broaden their horizons in the way John Lylehas put forth in this book. In general, there are far too few landplanners, landscape architects, or architects who have any workingprocedure that approximates what sustainable design entails. Thisbook provides important historical background and contemporaryexperience to help guide the way."--Pliny Fisk III, Center forMaximum Potential Building Systems. From the despoliation of our rivers and lakes by industrial runoffto the destruction of our atmosphere by sulphur emissions and CFCs,production cycles based on a one-way flow of materials and energyhave pushed us to the brink of environmental collapse. It is timefor a change, and in this groundbreaking book, John Tillman Lyleoffers us a blueprint for implementing that change. This book provides civil engineers, architects, land developmentplanners, and others with practical, realistic approaches toreversing this deadly course. Throughout, the emphasis is on provenregenerative practices for water use, land use, energy use, andbuilding design. Most importantly, it provides ways to reestablishconnections between people and nature, between art and science, andbetween technology and daily life.

Book Description
Sensory hair cells are the specialized mechanosensory receptors found in vertebrate auditory, vestibular, and lateral line organs that transduce vibratory and acoustic stimuli into the sensations of hearing and balance. Hair cells can be damaged due to such factors as aging, ototoxic chemicals, acoustic trauma, infection, or genetic factors. Loss of these hair cells lead to deficits in hearing and balance, and in mammals, such deficits are permanent. In contrast, non-mammalian vertebrates exhibit the capability to regenerate missing hair cells. Researchers have been examining the process of hair cell death and regeneration in animal models in an attempt to find ways of either preventing hair cell loss or stimulating the production of new hair cells in mammals, with the ultimate goal of finding new therapeutics for human sensorineural hearing and balance deficits. This has led to a wide array of research on sensory hair cells- such as understanding the factors that cause hair cell loss and finding agents that protect them from damage, elucidating the cell signaling pathways activated during hair cell death, examining the genes and cellular pathways that are regulated during the process of hair cell death and regeneration, and characterizing the functional sensory loss and recovery following acoustic or ototoxic insults to the inner ear. This research has involved cell and developmental biologists, physiologists, geneticists, bioinformaticians, and otolaryngologists. In this Research Topic, we have collated reviews of the past progress of hair cell death and regeneration studies and original research articles advancing sensory hair cell death and regeneration research into the future.

Book Description
The Phoenix Protocol will explain how to heal illness and radically extend lifespan and maybe even more than that! This book reveals a logical way to restore youth and dramatically extend lifespan by at least 25 years. Recent scientific discoveries in cellular research have produced the data to support this idea. Today stem cell therapy is the buzzword in the anti-aging arena but it requires a costly investment. August Dunning, a former NASA Space Station scientist, will show you a scientifically proven alternative plan to activate and proliferate your own endogenous stem cells and it's a lot cheaper...It's free! The Phoenix Protocol is the first book of its kind to scientifically explain the cellular chemistry of dry fasting which has been lifted from the work of the two Russian doctors who perfected and patented it. August Dunning has taken the science of dry fasting in a direction that no one has ever thought possible. This book is not just about dry fasting for healing and life extension, it's about functional immortality.Sometimes it does take a rocket scientist...

Book Description
This book explains what makes landscapes resilient. Why are some landscapes able to recover quickly from disruptive events or crises, while others are completely thrown off balance for the foreseeable future? The author sets out in search of the influencing factors and conditional structures of landscape resilience and not only evaluates the current state of the art, but also explores landscapes around the globe that could not be more contrasting: from arid agricultural landscapes to boreal forest landscapes, from atolls to saline landscapes, from terraced landscapes to cities. Just as diverse as the landscape types are the factors considered that can put landscapes under stress. However diverse the case studies are in detail, their fascinating mosaic shows at the same time that there are overarching principles that can be used to increase the resilience of landscapes in a targeted way, so that landscapes emerge from crises strengthened rather than weakened. This book is a translation of the original German 1st edition Landschaftliche Resilienz by Catrin Schmidt, published by Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature in 2020. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and on the related technologies to support the authors.
