Book Description
The Other Rāma presents a systematic analysis of the myth cycle of Paraśurāma ("Rāma with the Axe"), an avatára of Viṣṇu best known for decapitating his own mother and annihilating twenty-one generations of the Kṣatriya warrior caste in an extermination campaign frequently referred to as "genocide" by modern scholars. Compared to Rāma and Kṛṣṇa, the other human forms of Viṣṇu, Paraśurāma has a much darker reputation, with few temples devoted to him and scant worshippers. He has also attracted far less scholarly attention. But dozens of important castes and clans across the subcontinent claim Paraśurāma as the originator of their bloodline, and his mother, Reṇukā, is worshipped in the form of a severed head throughout South India. Using the tools of comparative mythology and psychoanalysis, Brian Collins identifies three major motifs in the mythology of Paraśurāma: his hybrid status as a Brahmin warrior, his act of matricide, and his bloody one-man war to cleanse the earth of Kṣatriyas. Collins considers a wide variety of representations of the myth, from its origins in the Mahābhārata to contemporary debates online. He also examines Paraśurāma alongside the Wandering Jew of European legend and Psycho's matricidal serial killer Norman Bates. He examines why mythmakers once elevated this transgressive and antisocial figure to the level of an avatāra and why he still holds such fascination for a world that continues to grapple with mass killings and violence against women.

Rama and the Early Avatars of Vishnu
Author: Swami Achuthananda
Publisher: Relianz Communications Pty Ltd
ISBN: 0975788345
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 171
Book Description
Full-blown trade wars, nuclear threats, attacks on nation's sovereignty...are we dangerously at the crossroads of a world war that may even threaten entire humanity? Maybe we are, but fear not. Hindus believe that whenever cosmic balance is threatened, Vishnu descends into the world as an avatar of change. "I am born age after age," says Krishna (Vishnu) in the Bhagavad Gita. Vishnu has many avatars, but his top ten avatars are special and known as the Dashavataras. In this volume, we enter the most exciting part of Hindu mythology--the Dashavataras--and discuss the early avatars of Vishnu. The avatar saga begins with a wicked demon stealing the Vedas while Brahma is sleeping. Vishnu takes the form of a giant fish and not only saves the Vedas but rescues mankind from a great deluge. As we progress through the avatars, you will come across Prahlada, whose story offers a shining example of the extent to which Vishnu would go to protect his devotees. In another incarnation of Vishnu, a generous king called Bali is dispatched to the netherworld for being too ambitious. While ambition is a virtue, not vice, this may seem unfair to the people of Kerala who hold Bali in high esteem. But Vishnu makes amends by bestowing the gift of longevity on Bali. Next, the axe-wielding Parashurama, a Brahmin by birth, embarks on a mission to exterminate the warrior caste from the face of Earth--and largely succeeds until he bumps into another avatar of Vishnu. The highlight of this volume undoubtedly is Rama, the hero of the Ramayana and a name that is synonymous with dharma (religious duty). About half the book is dedicated to Rama as we dissect Ramayana in detail, particularly the controversies. Although Rama is famous for defeating the ten-headed demon king of Lanka, it seems he waged a bigger battle with the dictates of dharma--and lost. We meet the monkey-faced Hanuman for the first time in this book. He is closely associated with Rama and highly revered among Hindus. Also in the Ramayana, we encounter one of the ultimate villains of Hindu mythology--the mighty Ravana. Even though Ravana abducted Rama's beloved wife, Sita, you will be surprised to know that not everyone regards Ravana as an antihero. In fact, at the end of the Ramayana, we are left with many bitter, thought-provoking questions that are debated even today.

The Problems with the Other Sacraments
Author: Rama P. Coomaraswamy
Publisher: Reviviscimus
ISBN: 9781597314619
Category : Mass
Languages : en
Pages : 292
Book Description
"The Problem with the Other Sacraments is a must read for anyone who is concerned about saving their immortal soul and understanding deceptions and errors of the Second Vatican Council. In this book, Dr. Coomaraswamy exposes the defects of the sacraments of the Conciliar Church. He exposes the planned self-destruction of the Church as designed and executed by the Conciliar and Post-Conciliar progressive clergy, and their subtle plan to crucify the Church by destroying the sacraments." [Bishop Joseph S. Macek]"Today, we are witnessing the auto-destruction of the Holy Roman Catholic Church. For the past 2,000 years, Satan has sought to destroy the Faith by perverting the truths that Christ taught the Apostles. Beginning in Jesus's own time with the betrayal of the arch-heretic Judas Iscariot, and continuing through the centuries, waves of error have threatened to destroy the Church, only to break and be dashed upon the Rock of Peter. With the inception of the Second Vatican Council, however, this spirit of arch-heresy has been welcomed into the Church of Rome by progressivists. Today, we are witnessing the sin of malfeasance. Priests, Bishops, Cardinals, and Popes have embraced the spirit of Judas Iscariot and have betrayed Christ by allowing the Church to be destroyed from within. Satan is having His hour."Traditions are not 'changed', they are either kept or discarded. Destroy Christian (Catholic) Tradition-immemorial, if not Apostolic, ceremonies, laws and practices of the Church-and you undermine the Church itself. Such was the strategy of the modernists who, under the aegis of John XXIII's aggiornamento ('updating'), quickly seized control of the Second Vatican Council, which laid the groundwork for the overthrowing of Tradition. The revision of the Mass and the sacraments came in the wake of the Council; the specific changes made to the sacraments other than the Mass are well documented here by Dr. Coomaraswamy."
