I looked at the mirror within to see who looked back at me I thought for sure I would see myself who else could it be but the more I look the more I see you staring right back at me Your genuine sweet smile that which is visible from a mile the blissful twinkle in your eyes oblivious to anything else under the sky your lips beckoning me the more I look, the more I see The sunlight reflecting off your hair like an ocean in which I long to dissolve the warm glow of your skin made me forget when it all begin All reflecting back on me making my heart warm and soul free I looked at the mirror within to see who looked back at me I thought for sure I would see myself who else could it be But the more I look the more I see your image that seeped into me

Book Description
Carolyn Kolb provides a delightful and detailed look into the heart of her city, New Orleans. She is a former Times-Picayune reporter and current columnist for New Orleans Magazine, where versions of these essays appeared as “Chronicles of Recent History.” Kolb takes her readers, both those who live in New Orleans and those who love it as visitors, on a virtual tour of her favorite people and places. Divided into sections on food, Mardi Gras, literature, and music, these short essays can be read in one gulp or devoured slowly over time. Either way, the reader will find a welcome companion and guide in Kolb. In bringing her stories up to date, Kolb's writings reflect an ongoing pattern of life in her fascinating city. Since the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, some of these things remembered will never return. Some of the people whose stories Kolb tells are no longer with us. It is important to her, and to us, that they are not forgotten. Kolb, and her readers, can honor them by sharing and enjoying their stories. As Kolb says, “When things fail, when the lights go out and the roof caves in and the water rises, all that remains, ultimately, is the story.” This collection of such stories was made with love.

Book Description
Set in the days of violent revolution against British rule in India, "A Living Memory" begins in a remote village, Alipur, at the bank of Mahi River in India, where families live in harmony in a close-knit community surrounding a sugar mill. Life in the community remains serene, not affected by the outside turmoil, as Romi and Tushar grow up playing and having adventures in a rural setup. As they mature, their paths diverge but they remain in close contact maintaining their old intimacy. One day a young girl, Runu, is found missing from her home. She was being held captive by a man of authority in the community. Later, as she walks to a house late one night, Tushar and his friends recognize her and bring her back home. The story then begins to unfold the life of Runu, along with Tushar, as she goes through a tumultuous life in uncertainty and disappointments as well as love and hopes. She longs for reaching her living memories and to her dismay finds that time has robbed her dreams. The story reflects the complexities of life in love, desire and social conflicts. Life in a small close community with scenes of a rural village in India has been eloquently described. Significant historical events, like the revolt against colonial power, great famine and horror of communal riots of the1930s and 40s that changed the social and political landscape of India are entwined with the characters' lives. Born in India, the author was educated and professionally engaged in scientific disciplines and moved to the United States in the 60s. On the literary side, he has written many short stories and essays for various magazines and published his first novel, "Her Own Path" in 2002.

Book Description
This challenging book, with excellent contributions from international social scientists, focuses on the link between body and memory that specifically refers to the use of digital technologies. Neuroscientists know very well that human beings automatically and unconsciously organize their experience in their bodies into spatial units whose confines are established by changes in location, temporality and the interactive elements that determine it. Our memories might be less reliable than those of the average computer, but they are just as capacious, much more flexible, and even more user-friendly. The aim of the present book is to outline, by the body, what we know of the sociology of memory. The authors and editors believe that an analysis at the sociological level will prove valuable in throwing light on accounts of human behavior at the interpersonal and social level, and will play an important role in our capacity to understand the neurobiological factors that underpin the various types of memory. This book is an ideal resource for advanced and postgraduate students in social sciences, as well as practitioners in the field of Information and Communication technologies. Scholarly and accessible in tone, Learning from Memory: Body, Memory and Technology in a Globalizing World will be read and enjoyed by members of the general public and the professional audience alike.
