It succeeded badly, the flap became very much inflamed and swollen, left entirely the surface of the 'stump, and could not be brought back; it gave the limb the appearance of a club. After a variety of means was fruitlessly tried to bring about cicatrization, a second amputation became necessary in order to save the patient's life.
