Book Description
This book isn't going to be the ultimate Alzado biography with 1000 little stats about his career and the impact he had on the sport of football - although his accomplishments will be covered and his influence was substantial, it's going to be a tale of two brothers from other mothers and tthe incredible impact he had on the people who loved him. You're going to get a glimpse of the Lyle Alzado very few people knew - the man, not the legend. I'm writing this book to continue what my friend Lyle started: the warning cry against self abuse, and as encouragement to those who struggle with the same deep, dark fears this seemingly invincible, unstoppable man did. No man is too big or powerful to have doubts fears pains and sorrows. Time is passed since his death stories that may have been embarrassing to him or others can now be told, no holds barred. So pad up and keep your helmet on - this is quite a story. His childhood was straight out of a script written for a horror movie. He dated so many beautiful women he could given Wilt Chamberlain a run for his money, but when it came to love, he was plagued with bad decisions, he was an example of physical perfection who later wasted away to practically nothing. He was generous to a fault and full of life but had an empty hole inside him. He swore he never used drugs and then in typical spectacular headline - making style, admitted he'd lied. He was a player in every sense of the word - friends with the world's top athletes, Hollywood royalty, and underworld bad guys. He was the last of a breed - and I was proud to call him my best friend.

Book Description
Straight from the mouths of the legends of the Silver and Black, Cheating Is Encouraged recapitulates the many as infamous stories from the last team to play “outlaw” football. Regardless of whether you loved or hated them, the Oakland Raiders of the 1970s were an amusing cast of outlaws, misfits, and anomalies that made up one of the greatest pro football teams of their era. The Raiders’ roster consisted of a collection of mavericks and rebels, some with behavioral issues, such as John “Tooz” Matuszak and Lyle Alzado, as well as castoffs like the aging George Blanda and the sandlot player Otis Sistrunk, who were passed over or disregarded by other NFL teams. To say that this group of outlaws had “attitude” would be a gross understatement. They were the Oakland Raiders, the Silver and Black, and Al Davis’s dream of “Just win, baby.” Gridiron characters (such as the Snake, Foo, the Assassin, the Hit Man, Dr. Death, and many others) chronicle the notorious on- and off-the-field exploits, away-game adventures, and the party-hard attitudes that are reflected in the team’s intimidating and glorified mix of renegades. Cheating Is Encouraged defines an era that can only be considered the last days of “real football played by real men.” Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Sports Publishing imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in sports—books about baseball, pro football, college football, pro and college basketball, hockey, or soccer, we have a book about your sport or your team. Book Description
Hell with the Lid Off looks at the ferocious five-year war waged by Pittsburgh and Oakland for NFL supremacy during the turbulent seventies.?The roots of their rivalry dated back to the 1972 playoff game in Pittsburgh that ended with the "Immaculate Reception," Franco Harris's stunning touchdown that led the Steelers to a win over the Raiders in their first postseason meeting.?That famous game ignited a fiery rivalry for NFL supremacy.?Between 1972 and 1977, the Steelers and the Raiders--between them boasting an incredible twenty-six Pro Football Hall of Famers--collided in the playoffs five straight seasons and in the AFC title game three consecutive years. Both teams favored force over finesse and had players whose forte was intimidation.?Pittsburgh's Steel Curtain defense featured Mean Joe Greene, Jack Lambert, Jack Ham, and Mel Blount, the latter's heavy hits forcing an NFL rule in his name.?The Raiders countered with "The Assassin," Jack Tatum, Skip Thomas (aka "Dr. Death"), George Atkinson, and Willie Brown in their memorable secondary.?Each of their championships crowned the eventual Super Bowl winner, and their bloodcurdling encounters became so violent and vicious that they transcended the NFL and had to be settled in a U.S. district court.? With its account of classic games, legendary owners, coaches, and players with larger-than-life personalities, Hell with the Lid Off is a story of turbulent football and one of the game's best-known rivalries.

Book Description
In the 1990s the big three networks were being challenged by upstarts FOX and the WB for viewer loyalty. Alongside must-see stalwarts like Frasier, Friends, and Seinfeld, the new networks introduced pop culture touchstones like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The X-Files. Such shows not only made household names of their stars, but also thrived in syndication and some even graduated to the big screen. In that decade, shows such as ER, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Northern Exposure were vying for awards while programs like Beverly Hills, 90210 and Home Improvement drew in millions of viewers each week. Even after these shows departed the airwaves, they live on in syndication and on DVDs, entertaining many generations of viewers. In Television Series of the 1990s: Essential Facts and Quirky Details, Vincent Terrace presents readers with a cornucopia of information about sixty programs from the decade. For example, did you know that Ally McBeal’s favorite brand of ice cream is Ben and Jerry’s? Or that Hank Hill’s shoe size is 12? Or that Carrie Bradshaw’s favorite cookie is Double-Stuff Oreos? These are just a handful of hundreds of fun and intriguing specifics found inside this volume. Programs from all of the major networks—as well as select syndicated programs and HBO—are represented here. This is not a book of opinions or essays about specific television programs but a treasure trove of facts associated with each show. FromNiles Crane’s I.Q score to George Constanza’s high score on Frogger, readers will discover a wealth of fascinating information that, for the most part, cannot be found elsewhere. In some cases, the factual data detailed herein is the only such documentation that currently exists on bygone shows of the era. Television Series of the 1990s is the ideal reference for fans of this decade and anyone looking to stump even the most knowledgeable trivia expert.
