Book Description
Excerpt from The "Lloyd" Guide to Australasia, Illustrated The increasing popularity of the Australian lines of steamers as regards tourist traffic, has created the want of a compact handbook on Australasia, such as would give, in a brief form, information on all topics likely to be of interest to the traveller; and the Norddeutscher Lloyd, in compliance with repeated requests from many of its clients, have endeavoured to meet this want by the present publication. The book is of course chiefly designed for travellers foreign to Australasia, though it is confidently expected that it will also prove useful to residents of the countries of which it treats. In the compilation of the general descriptive matter only the best sources have been consulted, while the statistics are also taken from the latest official publications; and no effort has been spared to make the book in every way thoroughly reliable. Special attention has been devoted to the requirements of the tourist, and all the principal sights and excursions have been described from personal observation. The maps also have been specially compiled for the book, and the latest railway lines etc. Have been added.
