Book Description
Wilson Harris, many times nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature, is a British writer of Guyanese origin, one of the most original novelists and critics of the twentieth century, and probably the first to use and interpret the aesthetically fruitful notion of cross-culturalism. Harris's insights into the profound symbiosis between history, culture and artistic expression were initially inspired by his encounters with Amerindians in the Guyanese rainforest interior, where he led many surveying expeditions. These encounters aroused his interest in pre-Columbian peoples, who figure prominently in many of his novels and stories. His perception of the Guyanese landscape is the source of his unique narrative rhetoric, richly metaphoric language, and philosophy of existence: i.e. the epistemological and phenomenological interrelatedness between man, animal life, and nature. The present study offers magisterial, in-depth interpretations of Harris's exhilaratingly complex and shape-shifting fictional worlds.

Book Description
The complete sixth series of the BBC comedy sketch show hosted by Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett, which in its heyday was as much of a British institution as roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Each programme begins and ends with the pair seated behind a desk reading quick-fire 'news' reports. In between, 'in a packed programme tonight...', there are sketches, drama serials, musical routines and a rambling monologue from Ronnie Corbett, before the pair finally sign off with their famous catchphrase: 'It's goodnight from me.' 'And it's goodnight from him.' 'Goodnight'.

Book Description
A groundbreaking look at the phenomenon of the labyrinth, connecting this ancient symbol to modern scientific principles. • Illustrated with labyrinths from around the world and throughout history. • Demonstrates how the labyrinth differs from a maze and how it is a tool for interpreting ancient myths and religious beliefs. • Draws parallels between the labyrinth and quantum physics, showing how through the secrets of the labyrinth we can unlock the mystery of life itself. The powerful symbol of the labyrinth exists in countless cultures spanning the globe from Africa and ancient Greece to India, China, and pre-Colombian North and South America. For centuries they have been used for religious rituals, meditation, and spiritual and physical healing. In the labyrinth humanity finds a model of the quintessential sacred space that depicts the most profound levels of consciousness. Its center is regarded in many cultures as a door between two worlds, thus providing individuals with the ideal place for self questioning and meditation. In a comprehensive exploration of this time-honored symbol, Patrick Conty shows how the geometrical construction of the ancient labyrinth corresponds exactly with today's modern geometry, illustrating that recent developments in math and physics parallel the science of ancient civilizations. By looking at the way the two systems complement each other, Conty draws new conclusions about the ancient world and how that world can benefit us right now. Conty explores not only physical labyrinths but also reveals how the same transcendent principles are at work in Celtic knot work; the designs of ancient Chinese cauldrons; the tattoos and tracings of primitive art; the textiles of Africa, Peru, and Central America; and the geometric patterns in Islamic art.

Book Description
Gianluca Delfino's study is based on the assumption that Wilson Harris' works as a whole show a remarkable unity of thought rooted in their author's complex imagination. As a valuable contribution to Caribbean Literature and Philosophy, Harris' imaginative approach to reality is discussed in relation to the categories of history and time with reference to several novels, from "Palace of The Peacock" to "The Mask of the Beggar", with a special focus on "The Infinite Rehearsal", "Jonestown" and "The Dark Jester", spanning more than forty years of his vast literary production, encompassing critical perspectives ranging from African philosophy to Jungian readings through historiography and anthropology. As a result, the cross-cultural quality of Harris' thought emerges as a healing outcome of the traumatic colonial encounter, bringing together elements of Amerindian, African and European origin in an ongoing dialogue with time, nature, and the psyche. The outcome of an extensive research into Harris' world, Delfino's study stands in the tradition of the late Hena Maes-Jelinek's critical enterprise by expanding philosophical and psychological readings, with the addition of anthropological perspectives that appeal to those who were captured by Harris' intricacy and rescued by Maes-Jelinek's illuminating interpretations. The attempt to reconstruct a unifying frame around Harris' body of work suggests a new way of looking at one of the Caribbean's most controversial authors.
