Book Description
Excerpt from The Iron Trade of Great Britain The purpose of the present volume is to present a commercial review of the conditions and prospects of the iron and steel trades of Great Britain, in relation to the rest of the world, and to the increasing demands for these materials at home and in all other countries. No attempt is made to enter upon a consideration of technical progress and conditions, which have been already dealt with in numerous important and valuable text-books, since the author in the year 1880 brought out the first general work on the steel industry. Indeed, it may almost be said that to-day, with the standard works of Howe, Roberts-Austen, Campbell, and Harbord available, almost the last word has been said on the technical side of the iron and steel manufacture, while the recent important volume of reports on American Industrial Conditions and Competition, drawn up by the Commission of the British Iron Trade Association, in 1902-3, brings pretty well up to date the distinguishing characteristics of American practice, and shows the differences of conditions between the United States and our own country. It is otherwise with the more strictly commercial aspects of the iron trade situation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
