Book Description
Remarkable developments in the field of transplantation have created opportunities to address the formidable challenges of transplantation across histocompatibility barriers, stem cell expansion, and prevention of complications and generation of graft-vs-tumor activity to eradicate residual disease. Stem Cell Transplantation for Hematologic and Other Disorders, Second Edition provides a glimpse into potential future applications of bone marrow derived stem cells in the field of cardiac repair. The updated chapters introduce the biologic underpinnings of hematopoietic cell transplantation, basic stem cell biology, immunobiology, and histocompatibility, with emphasis on indications and results of transplantation for specific diseases. Written by experts in the field, Stem Cell Transplantation for Hematologic Disorders, Second Edition provides seasoned professionals with a complete understanding of the current state of transplantation biology as well as a clear vision into the future.

Book Description
In this book, world-renowned experts in the field express well-reasoned opinions on a range of issues and controversies relating to haploidentical transplantation with the aim of providing practicing hematologists with clinically relevant and readily applicable information. Among the areas covered are graft manipulation and methods to control T-cell alloreactivity, the nature of the ideal graft and donor, haploidentical transplantation in pediatric and adult patients with malignant and nonmalignant diseases, immunologic reconstitution following transplantation, complications, and the prevention and treatment of relapse post transplantation. Attention is drawn to the implications of high-impact clinical trials whenever such trials are available. The readily intelligible text is complemented by numerous helpful tables, algorithms, and figures. The book will provide practical support for hematologists and transplant physicians as they attempt to provide optimal care in this exciting but increasingly complex medical specialty.

Book Description
This book discusses the aspects of haploidentical transplants and will shed light on the debates and questions on this burgeoning field and timely topic. Donor selection, graft failure, minimal CD34+ cell requirement, and conditioning regimens used for haploidentical transplants will be written by expert authors dealing with this type of transplants. Approximately one third of the books' chapters cover logic and basic aspects; the remaining two thirds of the book discuss clinical aspects, outcomes, and future perspectives, thus providing a comphrensive discussion of the topic. Haploidentical transplantation is extremely timely, rapidly-changing area and increasing its use will decrease the need for time-consuming, expensive, unrelated donor search. Moreover, Haploidentical Stem Cell Transplantation brings a set of clear answers to questions of feasibility, advantages over unrelated transplants, cost effectivity and outcome..

Book Description
The importance of bone marrow transplantation for patients who do not have a matched sibling donor cannot be overestimated. This subject has always been in the public domain, accentuated by dramatic appeals, from time to time, to search for matched volunteer donors in the public at large. Unfortunately, the availability of such donors is limited, due to the remarkable genetic diversity of humans. Thus, although registries of such volunteers now include more than seven million individuals, we still face the problem of finding a matched donor for about 30% of patients in need. To address this burning issue, extensive clinical and basic research is performed in leading institutes around the world. This book presents updated accounts of the different aspects of this research. The scope of the book is very wide, including strategies to overcome graft vs. host (GVH) disease and graft rejection, cell therapy to prevent leukemia relapse, and a range of modalities to improve immune reconstitution after transplantation. In addition, new approaches to induce immune tolerance towards organ transplants by means of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is extensively reviewed.

Book Description
This book is open access under a CC BY 4.0 license. This textbook, endorsed by the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), provides adult and paediatric nurses with a full and informative guide covering all aspects of transplant nursing, from basic principles to advanced concepts. It takes the reader on a journey through the history of transplant nursing, including essential and progressive elements to help nurses improve their knowledge and benefit the patient experience, as well as a comprehensive introduction to research and auditing methods. This new volume specifically intended for nurses, complements the ESH-EBMT reference title, a popular educational resource originally developed in 2003 for physicians to accompany an annual training course also serving as an educational tool in its own right. This title is designed to develop the knowledge of nurses in transplantation. It is the first book of its kind specifically targeted at nurses in this specialist field and acknowledges the valuable contribution that nursing makes in this area. This volume presents information that is essential for the education of nurses new to transplantation, while also offering a valuable resource for more experienced nurses who wish to update their knowledge.
