In the past decade, philosopher Bernard Rollin points out, we have "witnessed a major revolution in social concern with animal welfare and the moral status of animals." In determining the scope of this report I have sought to bring it within manageable proportions by confining it to those phases of humane activity that have received the least descriptive treatment.
