Book Description
The author of the acclaimed suspense novel The Forger returns to the dangerously rarified world of literary forgery in this tense sequel. When a scream shatters the summer night outside their country house in the Hudson Valley, reformed literary forger Will and his wife Meghan find their daughter Maisie shaken and bloodied, holding a parcel her attacker demanded she present to her father. Inside is a literary rarity the likes of which few have ever handled, and a letter laying out impossible demands regarding its future. After twenty years on the straight and narrow, Will finds himself ensnared in a plot to counterfeit the rarest book in American literature: Edgar Allan Poe’s Tamerlane, of which only a dozen copies are known to exist. Facing threats from his former nemesis Henry Slader, Will must rely on the artistic skills of his older daughter Nicole to help create a flawless forgery of this Holy Grail of American letters. Part mystery, part case study of the shadowy side of the book trade, and part homage to the writer who invented the detective tale, The Forger’s Daughter draws readers into the diabolically clever—and, for some, inescapable—world of literary forgery.

Book Description
Between World War II and Vatican II, as Italy struggled to rebuild after decades of Mussolini’s fascism, an eleventh-century order of contemplative monks in the Apennines were urged by Thomas Merton to found a daughter house on the rugged coast of California. A brilliant but world-weary ex-Jesuit, who had recently withdrawn from a high-intensity public life to go into reclusion at the ancient Sacro Eremo of Camaldoli, was tapped for the job. Based on notes kept for over sixty years by an early American novice at New Camaldoli Hermitage, The Hermits of Big Sur tells the compelling story of what unfolds within this small and idealistic community when medievalism must finally come to terms with modernism. It traces the call toward fuga mundi in the young seekers who arrive to try their vocations, only to discover that the monastic life requires much more of them than a bare desire for solitude. And it describes the miraculous transformation that sometimes occurs in individual monks after decades of lectio divina, silent meditation, liturgical faithfulness, and the communal bonds they have formed through the practice of the “privilege of love.”

Book Description
The setting of the stories is India in the 10th and 11th centuries, when the country was made of many small kingdoms and fiefdoms. There was a profusion of monarchs with dynastic ambitions and a desire for territorial aggrandisement. The king was usually advised by an intelligent and devoted Brahman minister. The heir apparent, the crown prince, had a circle of friends, mostly sons of the king’s ministers, who would be incorporated into the cabinet when the prince would become king. Dynastic intrigue was rife, and matrimonial alliances were often a strategy to expand the kingdom, together with befriending tribal communities to win their support. The kings were invariably polygamous and maintained large harems. The Brihatkatha, or Lord Shiva’s narrative to his wife Parvati, is presumed to confer the power of the celestial Vidyadharas to its readers, ridding them of all their sins and assuring them a place in heaven. The roller-coaster variety of telescoped stories form a complex garland from one narrative to another, with the possibility of losing touch with the main thread. Each story is gripping, quaint, and carries a moral or a message for the reader, who may, instead of reading the book from cover to cover, read the chapters randomly. The book is a treasure chest, a work of art, with its own secret internal geometry as well as myriad fascinating and often amusing stories.

Book Description
In Her Testimony is True, the Gospel of John is analysed as a rhetorical work that uses the metaphor of a trial in order to persuade readers that the Messiah is Jesus. John's presentation of women as witnesses in that trial is examined within the framework of Jewish law and custom regarding women as witnesses. Maccini concludes that the role of the women as witnesses follows no stereotypical pattern; that the women as witnesses, like the men, are treated as individuals, not as a class; and that in no case do any of the women bear witness in a way that breaches Jewish law and the custom of the contemporary culture.
